Very true, it's the hidden expenses. A place to live (and go back to together), clothes, drinks, taxi, condoms. The guy will usually take care of the last three, but a girl will generally spend more on 'preparation' costs. In the end it's actually more expensive for a girl to get laid, assuming she's going to go to a decent bar or club and pick up.
How do you figure? An attractive girl pays no cover, doesn't wait in line, gets drinks bought for her all night by guys and then chooses who she wants to go home with, which is usually the guy who appears the richest.
