--------------------------

I made a wager on a site Sun. The message following my bet was "Wager accepted" and the money was taken from my account. 30 mins after the race (which I WON), my bet was put back into my account and the bet was marked "Cancelled".

I called the service and was told that "Due to a computer glitch, the lines stayed open and the bet was accepted by accident".
My next question is therefore; am I not entitled to the payout?
Appreciate your help here.

I figure this guy is entitled to something--a $40 dollar bet with over 3 grand due--any thoughts??

Here is some more info--

----------------------------

The book was Virtualbookmaker.com
the contact there was Bruce Johnson
They were stammering when I asked whether ALL losers were refunded or not - seems nobody would put their reputation to that on tape. (concerns me)
and lastly, they closed my account because I spoke out.

ES-

....
I dont know, that just dont fit. Ok- lets say it was you this happened to, you called up to find out why it was cancelled and when they tell you you come up with the above statement.
A lot of things may have gone thru my mind at that moment but not the above statement on losers being refunded.
I was gonna answer in one of his other threads, but figured maybe safer here, since I think the next part of his scam is that indeed there was someone who bet on a loser that was not refunded right away and that person will soon appear.
Could be wrong-...again what would be going thru your mind- not his reaction.

ps- Early is that you on N.O. bboard also?

Pickles,
This is a very reduced story due to the nature of this board.
Allow me to expand. My INTIAL call was simply a "What the hell happened" call. As I am new to online wagering ,I took the story they gave me in order to relay the particulars to my father in law who was wondering what I was talking about.(remember- his bet & I told him it was accepted)
After we talked about it, we called them back. At this time we discussed many things and the refund aspect was just one issue.
I apologize for any confusion but I initially attempted to keep the story short and to the point. Unfortunately, some guys on this board fill in the blanks with their own versions and make a mockery out of anything that does not directly benefit them. (check some other posts about this)

If you read my posts in the other thread I never called you a scam or cheat. I think you are just unaware how horse betting works on-line or over the phone. The book is there with no-idea when the race is going to go, unlike a base or football game. So they take bets up to and several minutes past the actual off time. This off time remains unknown until summary results are posted on such web-sites as Equibase.com or DailyRacingForm.com. The results include the order of finish by horse # and name, what each horse paid to win, place, and show. Also any exotics like exactas, quinellas, daily doubles, and trifectas etc. They also give any scratches in the race, and most importantly the off time by the exact minute. eg: OFF: 1:32EST. Now remember because of some possible cheating last year at the Breeders cup most tracks use the time the first horse goes in the gate as the off time, this can be as much as 3 minutes before the gate actually opens and the horses break. Now add to this the 3 minutes most of these off-shore books add to that already early off time and you can see why it is imperative that you get in early. My advice to you is to call the book tommorow, don't bother with questions about other players. Just ask them to e-mail you the information concerning your bet, track, race, horses, and the off time they called the race at. Then compare this info to the official info at Equibase.com it is self explanatory.

wil.

PS. If you do this and need help just look for me posting in the main forum and post under one of mine in any thread. I will be glad to help you find out exactly when the race ran.

Thanks Wil,
That is exactly what I am running into. I am NOT a veteran online wagerer; however, I DO find this system rather "weak" now that I have experienced it first-hand. I was told that the system is "supposed to close" at post time BUT in their case, it failed due to a "glitch" (their words)
IF it was told to me in your words, then I would have been more cool about it; however, having spoken to them and hearing THEIR description, this IS NOT THE CASE. What they tell me is very different - maybe they should have YOU running interference for them as YOUR story is far more useful to them

I am hoping that you can see why I have a problem with this.

Obviously THIS is the board to be on. The other boards are full of idiots it seems. Logic appears to be a rare find out there - thanks for the invite to civilization Early. Regardless of the "opinions", I still find it troubling that the bettaker can give such convoluted stories of how it all happened. Never a straight story. Meanwhile many OTHER bookies all say that their systems lock off betting 1-3 mins BEFORE post time. Some guys were posting that leaving lines open is a common occurrence;however ,I am hearing a very different story from the books themselves.
So it seems I am back to my original belief - the line was open due to THEIR "glitch" as they called it, and my bet went in as a result.
These guys saying that the bet was too large and therefore a scam is ridiculous. Like I stated, if I was scamming, then I would have done a several horse wheel AND jacked the bet up to $200 to cover the extra costs...........same outcome. While they are saying that THIS aspect proves it was a planned past post bet, I say it proves better that it was not. (if it was "planned" , I sure picked one of the weaker triactors to play!)

Thanks for your input. I too am in Ontario but was unable to find an online hose wagering service - HPI uses the phone for bets correct?

SDS,

I read your story upstairs, since I don't know you I won't put a label on you but you are not going to win this one. In almost every sport if you past post a wager it is no action. Doesn't matter if it was a mistake or not.Did you ever see "The Sting".

Gl, in the future if it was an innocent mistake.

Can't say I ever sat through the sting. It was a simple mistake. I came here to find out how people in this game would handle it if it happened to them - seems like very few would ever have that happen to them

I had people tell me that the shop should come good and others say no way.
Interesting dilemma.

sds- Yeah--HPI is strictly phone--totally automated and except for a few times in the past 6 months that I have used them very reliable.

What I hate is the fact we cannot bet into the U.S. pools--heard that our policy of not requiring bettors who make large scores to pay tax.

One thing I like about your board here is that you share betting ideas - and I noticed a few of you actually have good info by the sounds of your outcomes.
Good luck to you all.
