my guess is no. i think that people might be more interested to see whats going on with the USMNT, but i think ultimately there will not be a ton of interest until 2014 in brazil. its a shame, because i have always loved the champions league personally, and i enjoy watching some of the bigger european leagues and this leagues often provide more entertaining matches then world cup. with the advent of the internet, these leagues are very easy to follow now, i can usually see every big premier league game (at least 1/3 of the matches on some channel and a feed online for about every game) and frankly would much rather watch them then college gameday or whatever nfl show is on sunday morning. i bet on mls, laliga, bundesliga, serie a (italy), but most of my bets will be epl or champions league, and i plan on tracking those in this forum. i do bet on other sports (mainly basketball and football) but i wont be tracking those, tougher for me to do online.

agreed...it's a shame too...such a great sport(my fave)...and yer right with advent of the internet you can folllow pretty much any team possible and with espn...fox soccer channel(and the newer fox soccer+)...gol tv....setanta....sky sports...you can follow it all the time...if you live in nyc u get spoiled... you have bars around manhattan and the rest of the boroughs that cater directly to certain teams.. meaning u can watch EVERY single game(including league and cup games...)for exmple..i am a man city fan and there is a bar in the city called mad hatters that has every single man city game...it's tremendous...and always packed...i don't get crazy about though...i look at futbol/soccer in the usa as liking a really cool band you can call your own....and yer spot on about the opportunities to make some coin along the way..can't wait for aug 14...actually can't wait til the 23 when the blues come to red bull arena to play sporting!!!!

I think with the exposure that soccer got this World Cup from ESPN and USA run is just building momentum. I have notice more and more people that I see daily having a more interest in soccer than ever behind. Ask me four years ago and most of them won't even watch. Now, I heard them talking and planning their weekend to watch some of the games.

I think it will take off some more in 2014 in Brazil when we can watch it here from 12-9pm daily.

The sad thing is that things like the FIFA World Cup happen once every four years while American sports have yearly huge events that make their presence more constant. If there was MLS "world series" or something, people would pay more attention to the sport and be reminded of it all the time.

Guys, question: do Americans like american football or baseball more?

I think football is on its way of becoming popular in US too. The New york team just signed Henry, Beckham plays in the US and I hope we'll see more transfers of good players from Europe to the US. This will certainly improve TV ratings and maybe people will take this sport seriously :)

Baseball is called AMERICA's FAVORITE PASTIME but they play 162 games (in 180 days) and the World Series finishes up in late October/early November (when it is cold in NY and Boston where many playoff games are played.)

American football (NFL) only has 16 games plus playoffs. The games are mostly on Sunday afternoons in September (when Brett Favre awakes from hibernating), October, November and December (playoffs in Jan/Feb). Many Americans have a favorite team or a rival they pull against. Some bet on the games and others follow due to fantasy leagues. The games are sponsored by beer companies......so there is plenty of beer drinking involved (this includes Favre too....why do you think he throws so many int's?)
