Nicks revealed that he's shed his walking boot and resumed running on his own. "Definitely making training camp," Nicks promised. "I started running about two weeks [ago] but the coaches don’t really want me to force the issue right now. ... They want me to just take my time with it — they feel like that’s what’s best. ... But I’ll definitely be ready for the season." We never adjusted Nicks' fantasy projection based on his injury. He'll be a mid-range WR1 target in 2012 drafts.

They will be the first routes Nicks has run in Giants camp. Nicks says he's also resumed straight-line running, and has felt "no pain." We're confident Nicks — Rotoworld's No. 6 receiver — will be ready for New York's opening-week tilt with the Cowboys.

It's an earlier than expected return for New York's No. 1 receiver, but coach Tom Coughlin hinted Monday Nicks would be back "soon." Per league rules, Nicks must practice without pads for three days, but he'll be full-go by the weekend. It's doubtful he'll suit up for Saturday's game against the Jets, but he'll be ready to roll for New York's August 24 regular season dress rehearsal against the Bears. Rotoworld's No. 7 receiver, Nicks can be safely drafted as the linchpin of your receiver corps.

According to Nicks, his foot is "fine." It's worrisome that Nicks' foot appears poised to remain an issue for some time, but he played all but four snaps in New York's opener, and won't miss any games unless he suffers a setback. Even playing through pain, Nicks is locked in as a WR1.

Nicks spent Friday's practice on the stationary bike after participating on a limited basis Thursday. Nicks acknowledged that he still feels lingering pain in his surgically repaired foot, and "certain things" -- routes or cuts -- cause discomfort. We would recommend downgrading Nicks to WR2/3 status until he puts the foot soreness and accompanying limitations behind him.

This was the expected decision, even after Nicks was limited on Thursday and just rode the stationary bike at practice on Friday. Tampa Bay is a bit banged up in the secondary, but Nicks isn't a lead-pipe lock for WR1 status while trying to fight through soreness in his surgically repaired foot. He admitted he still feels pain at times, especially in certain routes and cuts. Nicks is no worse than a top-tier WR2 on Sunday, so get him in your fantasy lineups.

Nicks didn't even make the trip to Carolina. It's a big surprise, as both Nicks and coach Tom Coughlin were on the record as expecting he'd play before he was listed as questionable on Wednesday's injury report. That would suggest Nicks suffered a setback, but it's possible the Giants were being disingenuous all along in an effort to keep the Panthers on their toes. As it is, the Giants will now be forced to roll with Rueben Randle and Ramses Barden behind Victor Cruz with Domenik Hixon (concussion) also out. Cruz could be in for a monster night. We suspect Nicks' chances of playing would have been far greater if not for the short week.

Nicks sat out Monday's practice and will do so again on Wednesday and Friday. He'll only practice once per week until the foot rounds into shape. "I had to look at the situation and I knew we had another big game coming up with Philly," Nicks said of last Thursday night's absence. "So ... I just took it in stride, pulled up the positive aspect about it. I’ll be ready to go for Philly."

Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Monday that Hakeem Nicks' troublesome knee has not improved since last Thursday's practice.

Nicks experienced an apparent setback with the knee after the practice, as he was downgraded from questionable to doubtful and ultimately ruled out for Week 4 against the Eagles after the knee swelled up. He has problems with both his right foot and left knee, although the latter appears to be Nicks' biggest issue at this point. Asked Monday if he's concerned with the knee, Coughlin replied, "How much concern can I show you?" We're skeptical Nicks stands any chance of playing in Week 5 against the Browns.

Hakeem Nicks (foot, knee) has been ruled out for Week 5 versus the Browns.

Coach Tom Coughlin pointed to a combination of knee and foot soreness, although the Giants insist there's been no setback with his surgically repaired foot. Doctors are hoping the extra rest will do him good. At this point, we're more concerned that the knee injury could end up being a cartilage or mensicus issue. With Nicks out and Ramses Barden (concussion) in doubt, Domenik Hixon is a must-add plug-and-play WR3 option against a Browns secondary allowing the second-most fantasy points to opposing receivers.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin provided no update on Hakeem Nicks' (foot, knee) status on Monday.

Coughlin said he'll have to see "how Nicks feels" late in the week before determining whether he has any chance to play in Week 6 at San Francisco. "I'm going to wait until I gather all that information," Coughlin said. "Let's take one day at a time here and see how it works out." The Giants are 3-2 and don't have a bye until Week 11, so they'll need all hands on deck to defeat the mighty 49ers. We probably won't know Nicks' status until Friday.

Ahmad Bradshaw told ESPN Radio Tuesday that Hakeem Nicks (knee, foot) has "hinted" he will play versus the 49ers in Week 6.

Bradshaw said Nicks "is tough and I think he'll be there this week." Tough or not, Nicks is far from a lock to avoid a setback after the soreness and swelling kept him out the past two weeks. It does sound like Nicks will have the green light if he can get through practices this week, however. We might not have a good read on his status until game time.

Although Hakeem Nicks (knee, foot) didn't practice Wednesday, he appeared to be moving "very well" on the side.

Per beat writer Ralph Vacchiano, Nicks looked good while making cuts and backpedaling. It's a sign that he has a real shot to practice on Thursday. Still, we won't have a good read on Nicks' Week 6 status until Friday afternoon at the earliest.

Coach Tom Coughlin is hopeful that Hakeem Nicks (knee, foot) will play Sunday after working in individual drills on Thursday.

He was officially limited. The plan is for Nicks to return to a limited practice on Friday to see how his knee feels. Coughlin isn't sure if the swelling has gone down, but he did note that Nicks has "moved well" this week. Nicks confirmed that the knee swelling did result from overcompensating for his surgically-repaired foot. He's headed for a game-time decision at San Francisco.
