Groat, while the glue of the Pirates of that era, also was a two-time All-American in B-ball at Duke. He would have played football too, but Branch Rickey, commish at the time, pressured him into one sport. Also a great golfer, and even ice skater. And all that, while serving two years in the military in his prime.
