You need 270 electoral votes to win the election.
Today Rassmusen poll has Kerry leading 223 to 197 somthing like that.
If there is no winner of 270 electoral votes there will be a run off in the senate and guess who own the tie breaking vote??? Thats right sports fans Dick Cheney.
I'll need a hand full of oxycotin and a wine enema to get me to stop laughing. The libs will be on suicide watch for the next 4 years.

Can you explain that for us non-Americans who don't fully understand your electoral system?

Off the top of my head if there is no electoral winner. They have a vote in the senate (I'm not sure if it goes to the house of reps first or at all).
Anyway if the senate were to have a 50/50 vote the VP cast the deciding ballot...It might not come down to that because pubbies have either a 51/49 or 52/48 advantage anyway unless some one crossed party lines there is at least one dem that would cross lines to vote for Bush.
Thats basically how it works, anybody want to correct me go ahead.

What was interesting with Bush/Gore is that this scenario could have happned in 2000.
And if the vote would have been 50/50 the VP would have had the deciding vote...Gore.
Now I'm not sure if i got this right either but it was a crazy scenario. I'm not off by much if at all.

You're close Patriot, but not quite.
Each State is allocated a number of electors (2 plus the number of its U.S.Representatives) that adds up to 535 plus 3 for the District of Columbia for a total of 538.

In the event of a tie in the electoral college it goes to the House of Representatives, with each state casting only one vote for one of the top three contenders. The candidate getting the majority of these votes is elected president.

Now if there's a tie for the Vice-President, THAT vote goes to the senate to make the selection from the top two contenders for that office.

Not to worry, the electoral college has worked well, without ties for over 100 years. I suspect GW won't have to worry too much this year either (I'm talking landslide!).

Bill,

I'm with you on that.

If the media and polls say it's close I believe Bush has a decent lead.

I'll never ever forget in 2000 the media and the polls claimed the dems were going to take seats in the Senate and they lost miserably, I see a repeat.
