I am thinking hard about that Texas Tech game as well. I keep going back and forth. There is another capper who I respect also on Texas Tech so you guys are pushing me into playing them more and more.
These old Southwestern Conference rivals usually put forth their best effort against each other in these types of games. It has something to do with Texas pride or something and who is the best in the state. Texas is the same way with Rice. They like beating this team like a bass drum. Just like they both like beating up on SMU. I don't see TT having any let up here. The only thing that holds me back from making this a bigger play is the rookie QB for Texas Tech. A few untimely mistakes here or there could cost us the cover. But it's a chance I'm willing to take when I know Leach will play this team for the entire 60 minutes just like they did with SMU last season when they were up 43-7 and still looking for more in the closing minutes and his first string offense still in the game.

Texas Tech (-27.5) over Rice **
.

Mike Leach is one of those bully coaches I love betting on in big-spread games. You know he'll never slow down the pace, and against this year's Rice team that could pretty easily mean over the 50-point mark.

I am rooting big time for Texas Tech to beat Rice by 50 points. I also want Texas to struggle a little bit at Wyoming. I want that line as low as possible for next week's Texas Tech/Texas so that i can make Texas my chalk play of the week next week.

Good luck this week GS.....
This is the same scenerio that I'm hoping for. I want the line to be as low as it can possibly be for the TT/Texas game. I believe TT will have a little better running game this year. And they could possibly be a little stronger in their front 7 on defense. So I don't want to see too big of a line because I think the Red Raiders might be a little undervalued this year. Kind of like Mizzou before their game with Illinois. There's still some VHT studs on both of these teams.

I have a feeling that Leach is going to work a little harder on his running game against Rice. Especially since UAB lit them up for 8 ypc. It should take some pressure off of their young QB. At any rate you just know Leach is going to play this team for the entire 60 minutes. I've never EVER seen him call off the dogs in any game. I think I remember him commenting one time after a blowout win over SMU that the opposing coach Bennet didn't like, "if they don't want to lose that bad, bring a better team."

Good reads, I'm back and I will be hoping right on!

Tough breaks for OU. Such a shame.

Remember a few years ago when you got on the Longhorns and the Over for a few weeks? Well it was good, and they were very good last week and the over cashed as well. I always try to be on the doggie in those interstate matchups.
As Always a GREAT week to ya.
I remember well. 2005 was a great year for me. And even though I have to hold my nose when I go to the windows to bet on them, me and a lot Big 12 bettors made a lot of money off of the Longhorns that year. In fact looking back, the Longhorns have probably been the single biggest money winner for me because they have in most years been a very steady and more predictable team than any team in the Big 12.

good luck this week. I am on the Iowa St. game myself.

I live in Des Moines and am a big Hawkeye fan... Take Iowa State to the bank this weekend. The Hawks stink against the spread offense and it's ISU's Super Bowl every year.... I will be at the game, and at least when ISU wins or gets close to winning, I will make a lot of money.

GL to all.

Yeah, Leach has made it pretty clear he'll never stop trying to score. I'm very seriously consider Florida at -36.5 for much the same reason as Tech. If that line were -35, I probably would already be on it.

I'll be taking a look at the Texas TT when it comes out. I'm a little leery of the altitude in Wyoming, though. You never know for sure how that'll effect a team not used to it. It may be smarter to wait and see if any 2H opportunities pop up in that game.

yep Leach is a big bully, but even his own fans call
TT (typical Tech) when they play somebody better than them and lose on the road as in last year when the Sooners pounded them
It all started with that Kliff Kingsbury kid who used to wear a Britney Spears T-Shirt underneath his shoulder pads, I remember Leach was playing New Mexico in Albuquqrque on a Friday night several years ago and he was up really big with a shutout going and he kept going for it on 4th down to rub it in

fonz...Welcome to the RX. This year ISU's offense will be a little harder to prepare for because of all of the potential mismatches that it presents. That's why Rice was so hard to stop these last few years under herman.. I doubt seriously if OC Herman showed all of his hand in their win over North Dakota St. The funny thing about this game that is different from just about every rivalry game that I've seen, Iowa State NEVER has the better players. And they never look better on paper than Iowa. Yet somehow they always keep this game close. I think as long as Ferenz is at Iowa this same thing will go on every year and 4 out of 5 times we'll come home with the money. So what we have to hope for is for Ferenz stay put at Iowa to keep this trend alive..

Yea ... Leech likes to run the scores up for sure. The thing keeping me away from this is the qb for tech, but it's not like he is going up against one of those tough big12 schools (yet)

Albuquerque, sorry typo, I went to school there , my first roommate who played for University of New Mexico told me "some guy named Urlacher is ahead of me", that makes me laugh considering he is now All-Pro in the NFL

any reason not to take Kansas -12.5?
I really can't think of any real good reason not to take Kansas. The only thing that would concern me at all would be the Kansas defense. They were only 1-3 ATS playing on the road last year. UTEP doesn't have any defense either, so Kansas might just be able to outscore them and come out of there with a couple TD win. But I kind of prefer to see Kansas play a game against a division 1 team before I play on them.

I don't think the altitude will have any affect whatsoever on Texas. They've never seemed to have any trouble when they played at the high altitude of Boulder to play Colorado. Plus they can rotate so many players that Wyoming is liable to see a fresh face on every other possesion. I'm still not sure though that Texas can or really cares about covering that big of a number on the road with Texas Tech on board. I still think the teams like Florida and Texas are going to continue to have overinflated lines this season. If Texas had played their first game against ULM last season they would have beaten the spread because the line would have been set lower and bet up to maybe 37 or 38. But when you win 9 games ATS, the linesmakers are going to make it harder for you the next season.

Thanks for the welcome. I have been lurking these forums this year a bit and really like the site.

You are absolutely right though, Iowa State does not have better players this year or really any year, but they get way more pumped up for this game than Iowa does.

I was really mad about Iowa barely beating UNI last week b/c this line is usually Iowa (-10) or so.

One game that I've been looking at is BYU/Tulane. I don't make it a habit of giving double digits on the road. But there are a few things here that makes me think BYU will cover this spread. Tulsa was able to score 37 on Tulane with a rookie QB. BYU will have one of the best QB's in the country coming in. So I expect BYU to score pretty close to the 37 points that Tulsa got. I also think BYU has a better defense than Tulsa. And the game they played last week against the Sooners probably wasn't that tiring of an effort for their defense since OU ended up running only 57 plays that night. Plus the dome will be a familiar surrpounding for BYU since they just played in one last week against about 50,000 OU fans. Plus the fact that BYU is very much in the BCS picture now makes me think that they won't have any letup in games like this to win them some brownie points with the polls. The line is 17.5 right now. I would like to see it come back to 17. Then I might get it.
