My feeling is the game will go under. Much of the total for the game depends on if Southern Miss establishes their running game. Boise gives up 150 ypg rushing, so it makes me think SM can have some successs out of Damion Fletcher, who had over 200 yards rushing last week. It should keep Boise's offense off the field a little more than they're used to. I think SM's best defense in this game will be their offense. And 11 points is alot of points in a game where your playing a SM team who is averaging 50 more offensive yards a game than the favorites playing on the road.

Thanks...

I am going to go with you on SM +11 as I play your Best Bets each week...If the total cracks 60 as it is getting bet up more each time I check, I might hit the under as well.

I want to put in these games before all of the big tout services release their plays. Namely Dr. Bob..

South Carolina (-1) over Kentucky ***
Northwestern (+1) over Michigan St. ***
Southern Miss (+11) over Boise St. **** (Best Bet)
Utah St. (+14.5) over San Jose St. **
New Mexico (+23) over BYU **

hey go, i normally agree alot with u, but i would have to take kentucky and the 3 points now at home, even though one of my rules is: dont bet against ball coach
have u seen so miss; they suck
and i would lean to mich st

Letswin...South Carolina looks like they are very much on the upswing now that they've solved some of their QB issues. SC is statistically better on both sides of the ball than Kentucky. I think much of Kentucky's line value is coming from their close game with Bama last week. But Bama has a habit of playing down to their competetion. And they were also coming off a big win at Georgia..South Carolina has the 4th rated defense in the country. And will be the best defense that Kentucky has seen. Plus I like the fact that the ole ball coach is 15-0 against Kentucky. And 8-0 with South Carolina. Your not the only one who thinks I'm crazy for taking Southern Miss. But Boise is giving up only about 20 yards less rushing on defense than the UTEP team that SM played last week. Which makes me think that SM can have some success running the ball on Boise. Everybody says SM sucks, but they haven't been blown out by anybody this year. And have been in every game they've played..And we're not asking for a win here..Just a 2 score cover..As for Michigan State, i think this game will be close..Statistically Northwestern has as good of a defense as the Iowa team that MSU played last week. And MSU had problems moving the ball on Iowa..Statistically, NW is just a little better on the offensive side of the ball than Iowa. So it makes me think they can score some points at home in this game..I also like the fact that NW is coming off a bye week. And MSU has played 3 tough games the last 3 weeks. NW should be well rested and ready to go against what could be a tired MSU team once again hitting the road...Good luck.

GoSooners....I am hearing Pettigrew is going to be playing for OSU this weekend. Did you hear that? If not, would it change your play? I am really thinking about buying the hook and taking the 14 points if he is playing.

Interesting Defensive Rankings of Boise State and So. Miss

I found the following current DEFENSIVE rankings to be very interesting in comparing Boise State and Southern Miss.

Boise State

31st Rushing Defense
28th Passing Defense
12th Scoring Defense

12th OVERALL DEFENSE

Southern Miss

90th Rushing Defense
75th Passing Defense
93rd Scoring Defense

92nd OVERALL DEFENSE

Food for thought to anyone ready to put their hard earned money on the Golden Eagles +11 tomorrow. Soumi

Pettigrew is supposed to be THE MAN at WR for OSU, right? NFL talent?

Do you have a link to this story? Thanks in advance. :aktion033

I'm sure Pettigrew is going to give it a go since OSU has rested him for the last 2 weeks. But how he is going to play is the question..With or without Pettigrew I would still feel the same about the game. But when we're getting up in 3 score territory I can understand your thinking about taking 14 and the hook.. This is the very reason why I bought the hook off of 14 to 13.5. I think the final score could be very close to the number. My numbers have Missouri right on the 14 spread number. If you want a play that is just as good as the spread, take the Under. Even where it is now at 77. I don't see either of these teams getting out of the low 40's because both teams are good at running the ball and shortening the game. I actually debated taking this total over my spread play. When you get two upper tier teams of the Big 12 playing each other, your probably not going to see one game get into the 80's. These are genrally the kind of totals that are reserved for the lower tier conference teams when they play each other. Not two top 20 teams...File that away and look at this year's results when the season is over..You'll see only a handfull or less that actually reach this number between two rated teams.

I think your missing the point..It's the offense that I'm looking at. Not the defense. SM is the running dogs in this game playing at home. Sure they are going to give up points. They've done it all season. But my numbers say they are going to have success running the ball. And if they do, their defense becomes less of an issue...Listen, Boise may really be this good and blow this team away after travelling 2000 miles for a road game. I'll be the first one to to come on here and say you guys were right..I'm going to have my share of losses on my bigger plays this season. You can't go through a football season undefeated..But I can tell you that Southern Miss was my strongest "probable running dog" in my system this week. That's why I played them. My second strongest play would probably have to be Texas Tech. With South Carolina third.

Sorry don't really have a link to the story, just live close and hear things. I heard the QB say he was sure he was going to play and was surprised he didn't play last week. So take it for what its worth. Pettigrew is a huge part of their game in both receiving and run blocking and if he's back and healthy that could be a huge boost to OSU being able to cover this game. Under 77 also looks pretty good GS. I may play small on OSU +14 and large on under 77.

Thanks for replying back.

I'm with you on this play. I bet this game on Sunday night. Bought the hook, so I have Oky State +14.5! Let's get it! :aktion033

Thanks, GS! I certainly am not trying to rain on your parade. I guess I've always been a staunch proponent of defense as opposed to offense. The time worn adage that "defense wins championships" always permeates my thinking when looking at teams I bet on or against.

Like I said, that's why they call this "gambling!" :lolBIG: One of us will be a happy camper on this one.

Again, I'm most appreciative of your willingness to share ideas with us. I enjoy the free flow exchange on like or opposing views at this forum. That is what makes the Rx so special! :aktion033

Beaking balls? Huh?

Just exchanging opposing views. That's all. Food for thought. Trying to add to the discussion on this particular game. I mean, that's why we're here right? To exchange ideas and come up with the best possible plays to beat THE MAN (e.g., bookies). Well, at least that is why I am here.

Why are you breaking MY balls with your post? How does that add to the discussion? :think2:

Why am I "all over" GoSooners thread? I am exchanging ideas and information with the OP, GoSooners, on a particular game - Boise State at Southern Miss! I respect his opinion greatly, so I want to ascertain and delve into his thought process on his choice of Southern Miss +11, that's all. He has been gracious enough to provide me with a cogent and insightful look at his thought process. For this, I am grateful.

Despite your dellusions, nothing malevolent is intended by my posts here.

I am just trying to pick the brain of one of the more respected handicappers at this fine forum. 'NUFF SAID!

The better question is what are YOU doing? Adding anything of value here to the discussion? :think2: Thought so.

Seeing that you have just over 100 posts, do you think the "newbie" comment to me is warranted? Please look in the mirror when you post comments like that.

"Food for thought" comment is merely a precurser to stimulate analytical thinking. Critical reasoning. That's all.

Peace out.

There shouldn't be any discussion, he has already placed his wager. What good does it do?:think2:

Thanks, Belly, For Setting Me Straight

OK, I understand your premise clearly now.

The OP here, GoSooners, has already laid out his reasoning behind the selection/bet of Southern Miss +11, and that should suffice.
There is really no need to delve into the thought process behind any selection posted in GoSooner's thread or any other OP for that matter.

I can either accept or reject the pick/reasoning. I do not have to post my opposing viewpoints. To do otherwise merely adds nothing of value to the thread and would be completely illogigal.

From now on, if I post anything in GoSooners or any OP's thread, it will be to either praise the pick/reasoning
an_worship.gif
or add something of value which significantly supports it with new facts/evidence which the OP may have missed.

Bingo! :aktion033

Thanks, Belly, for setting me straight. Unlike others here taking cheapshots at me, at least you pose this thought provoking question to me in civil manner.

I apologize directly to GoSooners for coming into his thread and presenting an opposing view on the Boise State - Southern Miss game.

GS, if I ruffled your feathers by doing so, I apologize.
