why are people recommending caribbean resorts during september ??

nothing better than honyemooning with no power and huddled with the other guests when a CAT4 or worse is headed for you - LOLL

september is still hurricane season, and you just don't want to plan something as important as a honeymoon in the caribbean during that time of year. talk about getting things off on the wrong foot

aruba is safe, as others have said, b/c it's out of the hurricane belt -- but a hurricane that is in the area can still toss some rain that way

out of the 5 times ive been there during that time of year ive yet to be huddled in riding out a 'cane.

i went to their main website, like 40 diff places to stay there- which did you stay at?

A buddy of mine just got back from Nicaragua for a week, he and the misses loved it. Nice mansion, chef, maid, gardener and 4 security guards posted 24 hours a day.

on a cruise you do not have to worry about hurricanes and being standed. Only have to worry if one is striking fla at the time you leave. I would not worry about it. As far as sea sickness the patch will work wonders for her. Unless it is really rocky she will never know she is on a ship.

Stabilizers on a Cruise Ship
Guest Author - Lisa Shea

Ships on the ocean have to deal with waves and weather. Stabilizers are what help the ships stay straight and upright, which cuts down on seasickness.

First, people tend to get seasick because of a disconnect between what they see and what their inner ears sense. On land, you can see the ground and sense how you move across the ground. At sea, you lose all visual reference and therefore movements can upset your stomach.

The smoother the sailing, the less likely this problem will occur. Therefore a big ship - which resists waves and weather - is far smoother than a smaller ship. But there still could be movement if there were large waves or a storm. This is where the stabilizers come in.

Stabilizers are in essence like big 'wings' that stick out of the left and right side of the ship, below the waterline. They help keep the ship from swaying to the left or right. The newer the ship, the more advanced the stabilizers are, and the more they are able to keep the ship quite calm even in rough conditions.

If you have problems with seasickness, it's worth it to look for newer ships, with stabilizers, and to take cruises on routes that involve calm oceans.

Note that some cynical people say that cruise ships sometimes deliberately avoid using stabilizers, so that their passengers eat less food :) However, given that cruise ship staff are pressured to get people to drink, gamble, and spend as much as possible on their voyage, I really doubt they'd risk that income by having sick people staying in their cabins!

I've been fortunate in my life to travel extensively -- I've been to five continents and probably 25 countries -- and in my humble opinion, one city is the hands down winner of the romantic honeymoon sweepstakes: Paris. It meets your requirements: English is fine, not on a beach, the weather is perfect in September, it makes a great story to tell your friends afterward and most importantly, it is, in fact, the most romantic city on the planet. Wander the left bank of the Seine, have a snack at a cafe where Hemmingway wrote, let a starving artist sketch you for a few bucks. Actually, I can't really put into words why Paris is the most romantic city on earth, but I promise you that it is (plus, she'll dig the cultural aspects: the Louvre, Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, etc.).

even though you aren't important, this sounds like a great idea.

Being a homebody that rarely travels outside the country, is it reasonable to go to Paris and not visit other countries in Europe?

Seems like folks I know when they hit up Paris, it is part of a 5-80 country tour...

Definitely, it's totally reasonable to do only Paris. Besides, that way your airfare/travel expenses can be kept to a minimum. And don't be freaked by the initial prices you see at expedia, travelocity, etc. for hotels in the 'hot zones', near the night life, cafes, museums. While it's true that you can pay $1000 a night to stay in Paris, it's also true that if you search carefully, you can stay at a great hotel in Paris for $150 per night. (You can actually stay in the hostels in Paris for $20 a night, but I suspect your fiancee would nix that venue for the honeymoon). Congratulations and have fun.

After watching the movie Hostel, there is no chance my girlfriend would agree to ever stay in a hostel located in a foreign country.

The hard part about it all is that I know nothing about Paris. I wouldn't know which hotels were good, bad, hot zone, not zone, etc. I wouldn't know where the good places are to visit and etc.

As far as hotel, the only guide i have is the star ratings, location I don't think is included with that.

Am I better off going with a tour package? (which I wouldn't know which is good either)

I see a few people suggested Aruba- I feel this place is wayyyy overrated.. I went their on my Honeymoon and found its for fat old people. Dont get me wrong, laying on the beach with a drink is cool and fun. But by day 5 you are like what now what? Casino's i found were weak and the chicks were old and fat!! Like i said, i have no problem sitting and drinking but if you want to do something else you are out of luck- the island isn't much for site seeing and i found if you wanted to go into town you needed to take cab for 25 bucks-

I loved St Martaan... the european woman were bangin and there was tons to do on the island. you can still sit and drink but at least their was other stuff to do and close by. I also feel their casino's were bigger and better- Hope this helps!

Haven't read the entire thread, but as others have stated don't do Vegas. First of all, Billhill and I went in August and (my first time and I didn't expect such insufferable heat). I don't gamble other than the little black jack machines they have at the bars. Anyway......I did it to make my husband happy. And, it was cheap.

Had I to do it over again, (is your fiancee a sports fan?) I would have planned a road trip to see baseball games across the US at stadiums we (as a couple) hadn't been to before. We could have seen 5 or 6 in the time of our trip. The experience would have been a lot more appropo to our relationship.

Just a thought.

Okay.....i guess not everyone here knows me....i live pretty close to hawaii so that is not an option. Continental US is actually a pretty good idea but i'm not sure she will be "thrilled" to be heading to somewhere we would normally go (i.e. vegas, california, etc.). I like the idea of a boat cruise but she gets sea-sick....i might take have her try on the sea-sickness patch but until she gets confirmation that she can stay on sea without vomit, I doubt she will go for that idea.

I would prefer to go somewhere that english speaking is pretty common because I do not know any other languages. Also, I live near the beach so although the beach is a wonderful idea, I would be more than open to places that don't focus around the beach setting.

Some great ideas so far....keep em firing boys....I need to get my mind off of gambling cause I'm getting hammered by these fucking teams.

Shdw, I've traveled to roughly 35 states and about 25 countries and without a shadow of a doubt the most beautiful city I've ever been to is Florence, Italy. Rome is great and Pisa is nice also and the water and sand are great.

Also, anywhere on the coast of North Carolina is solid. I've stayed in Topsail Island and it was fantastic.

Forget all these single guys that tell you Vegas or Reno or whatever as this isn't about gambling. It's about a once in a lifetime chance to take your new bride somewhere she'll enjoy. Notice I said SHE'LL ENJOY. You'll learn more about that later in your marriage.

Shdw, this is damn goofy. I lived in Europe for 6 years and it was amazing. Go see the world and don't limit yourself because of some movie you watched.

Shdw...listen to Enfuego and Kermit

You won't be sorry and you will remember it for the rest of your life and do not do any gambling when you are on this trip...but if you are in Europe, attend a soccer game or two..
