Apparently I have an insane amount of pto this year from rolling it over. After losing 25 hours I don't plan on letting that happen again. Going to apply for a passport next week and plan a trip possibly in April or May.

Any recommendations on where to go? Thinking of spending 3 weeks there and have a few places in mind. Doesn't have to be Europe but want somewhere safe with a portion of the population being able to speak English. Some of the places I'm considering are Iceland, the Netherlands, or Singapore.

Never been to the 3 places you listed but I loved Rome and Italy in general. The coliseum was pretty surreal standing in the middle of it, knowing fighters used to die 100's of years ago. Hit London while I was there for 5 days and while cool, it felt like New York.

Enjoy!

My geography professor in college said Austria was the most beautiful country he ever visited. Would love to do Italy and was my first thought. From what I've read it's over touristy and all sorts of dumb rules. Might even have some distant relatives there.

There are places in Italy that are not overly touristy

Capri? Beautiful but touristy, maybe go to Cinque Terre instead

Rome? of course it's touristy, still an absolute must do

Florence? great city, great art, great culture

Rome and Florence are simply iconic cities, a must do

Amalfi Coast & Tropea, two great escapes with beautiful and unique beaches

whatever you do, do this, fly Ryanair around Europe, do not forget that name, Ryanair

You can fly from places like Rome to Barcelona for $ 75 round trip, no joke

I flew three people from Rome to Calabria (southern Italy) for a total of $ 90 (one way). A major airline like Alitalia wanted $ 300 per ticket

@Willie thanks for the pro tip. Just downloaded the app. Randomly plugged in London to Barcelona. $30 round trip is sick.

If I decide on italy, definitely need to see Sicily. Moms side of the family is all from there. Sicily to Rome is close to 10 hours in a car so Ryanair would come in handy. You're right Italy has a lot going for it and tons I would love to see.

Nice. Wouldn't mind checking out the UK. I hear the French are assholes haha. Have fun!

Not that anyone cares....I haven't worked less than 56 hours since September. This will be much needed. What's crazy is if I take off for 3 I'll still accrue another 4 weeks of pto.

I did 2 weeks in Iceland and England last year....hitting Iceland both on the way there and the way back as flights to/from Iceland-England are dirt cheap and you can get a nicely priced round trip to/from Iceland-USA.

Iceland very scenic, modern, but insanely expensive. Happy Hour beer is $7, regular price $10-12 and a glass of bad wine is $20. Lots to see but either need a car or book a series of group trips that take off from Rekyavik downtown.

In England I started and ended in London and never needed a car, just trains and buses. Went from london to manchester to liverpool to birmingham to bristol and then back to london. Really dug Bristol and will definitely go back and hit Bristol and the neighboring town of Bath and day trip the Cotswolds and catch a match or two in London

I did Europe last September. I bought a German rail pass. I am a huge railfan. We went on like 23 trains in ten days. Some obviously just short rides. The pass allowed me to go to Austria and to parts of Italy. We went to Venice, via Innsbruck Austria. Both great places to visit. Beautiful places is an understatement. Did every major city in Germany. Did a Rhine River cruise which was awesome. Not sure what your status is (single, wife or girlfriend), but if you are single, going to an FKK in Germany is quite eye opening. I can't imagine there are many places like this in the world. You can google FKK, they are all over Germany, and there are about 5 right in the Frankfurt area. I'm going back in June and getting another rail pass and I am going to do quite a bit of Italy this time, along with a little of Germany and Austria.

Switzerland was absolutely amazing. Doesn’t get enough credit, but that’s great, bc it’s less crowded and blows The touristy places out of the water. Can’t wait to go back, this time skipping everything else and enjoying it to it’s entirety...

That's my wife's family, I'm Neapolitan. Happy, good times, food and drink

Calabrese, stubborn as hell

At dinner with her family, everyone prime and proper, kinda stiff

At dinner with my family, everyone talking over each other, drinking, laughing and singing

I tell her that's the difference between us too
