Coach Hoeppner did a terrific job in his first campaign at Indiana. But the Hoosiers are running out of athletes and they will get trounced at the Big House today. In their last four games (0-4 SU and 0-3-1 ATS), the Hoosier defense allowed 38 at Iowa, 41 against Ohio State, 46 at Michigan State (scored just 15), and 42 versus Minnesota. That’s 42 points a game and all four losses were in consecutive weeks. No rest for the weary now with an undermanned Indiana team traveling to Michigan. The Hoosiers have now lost star middle linebacker John Pannozzo, defensive tackle Russ Richardson, cornerback Buster Larkins, and strong safety Aaron Mitchell. But what really affects the Indiana production is an Achilles injury to star 6-7 WR James Hardy. He was the guy making most of the plays when Indiana was scoring points (57 catches including 10 touchdowns). Add WR James Bailey as another casualty and the Hoosiers are in big trouble. Indiana is now #88 (behind Duke) and fading fast in total defense and they’ve had trouble rushing the football all year. I suspect you will see sensational performances out of QB Henne, RB Hart, and WR Avant in the tune-up before Ohio State. Last Saturday Indiana actually led Minnesota 14-7 at halftime but allowed the Gophers five touchdowns in their first five possessions of the 2nd half. Minnesota only punted three times punishing Indiana for 347 rushing yards. It’s very rare to find a Michigan team that doesn’t lay big points and blow out at least one Big 10 opponent in Ann Arbor. It won’t happen next week against the Buckeyes, so today is the day. Hoosiers have yielded 824 rushing yards the past three weeks so Hart should have a 200+ kind of afternoon.
