I wish everyone a happy 2007!
German Soccer will restart this weekend with games in Bundesliga 2. Bundesliga 1 will follow next week.
Here are my picks for this weekend:
2* 1860 München -105 (Pinnacle)
I was very reluctant to play 1860 in the first half of the season as I didn't consider them a very good team. However they have put things together and finished 2006 very strong, especially at home where they are currently 6-1-1. They are only 4 points behind 3rd place which would qualify them for a return to Bundesliga 1 and even though I believe they will ultimately not accomplish that, they will certainly be motivated to try.
On the other side you have a Fürth team that hasn't shown much all season and there is no reason to believe this is about to change. They are mediocre at best and their only goal for this year is to avoid relegation. Their whole team chemistry seems questionable as not only their coach but several key players have announced to leave after the season.
2* 1. FC Köln over 2,5 -111 (Pinnacle)
I'm as curious as anyone to see what is next to happen in Köln now that Daum had a few weeks to work with the team and bring in some new players. I don't expect them to make it anywhere near 3rd place which would qualify them to move back up to Bundesliga 1. They are simply too far behind and the team still doesn't have enough quality imo.
But I do expect some firepower from them in front of their home crowd on Sunday and even though Augsburg has a solid defense and is not exactly an over candidate my gut feeling tells me there will be some scoring in this one. This is certainly a stomach play that is not really backed by the stats. Let's see if I can trust my instincts!
2* SC Freiburg +0,5/+1 -111 (Pinnacle)
Odds are too heavily in favor of Rostock in this one. Freiburg is not as bad as their 13th place would indicate. Rostock is missing key offensive players in Kern and Hähnge, also Sebastian on defense. I don't expect much scoring in this one. Freiburg has played well in two exhibition games last week.
