Well, I have an 11-year-old and kids at that age usually aren't in the business of lying that much. It happens of course.

But...if it even comes up, you have to do what's right and report it. You just have to. It's the law. You can't use your own judgement to determine if some other kid is lying or not. If she is sincere and telling you what's happening to her, you have to protect her whether she's your kid or not.

Whether you like it or not, those government agencies keep life in America somewhat civilized.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. In most cases, the govt makes things worse.

How would you feel if the example you gave was your best friend's kid? Still up to the task of "doing what's right"? You better be 100% sure or your lifelong friendship is toast, though "the law" says you MUST REPORT IT!

This in a so-called 'free' country?

I'm on Atlanta+9 for a bit. A line swing too much for me to ignore Atlanta goes from -2.5 to +9 in 2 days. Seems like an over reaction to the Korver injury.....I've seen the plus/minus for Atlanta when he's on or off the floor but I'm seeing some value on Atlanta tonight.
Walter and Acebb....this is what a win looks like. These playoffs have been like an ATM machine for me. Hurts doesn't it? Neither of you have an out to bet...no book, no credit, no cash. Change your way of life and maybe things will turn around for you two lying dummies.

It's a tough position to be in. Depends on how all of it went down.

A similar thing happened to someone I know. Their son was molested by the son of a family friend, ages about 7 and 14. In this case they reported the kid, needless to say, the families
are not friends any more.

Yeah, I don't know how you could be. It would be two boys in bed awkward.

Was the older kid convicted?

See, it's not that cut and dried, unless you KNOW what happened in every case, which nobody does.

As a free citizen, I should have the right to shrug and say, "well, maybe he did, maybe he didn't...who the hell am I to judge because I wasn't there"

Should the law usurp my judgment? Should the law drive a wedge between best friends?

Be honest: the law stinks (just like thousands and thousands and thousands of other laws that infringe on our freedom)

Thank you for your service and goodnight.

A friend of mine got into an ugly separation/divorce with his ex. Among many of her unfounded accusations, one was molesting their daughter. My friend was investigated and forced to take a police lie detector test (after all, why refuse if he had nothing to hide?) while his daughter was examined vaginally and drilled with all sorts of uncomfortable questions from strangers. Moreover, he was forced into supervised visitation with his daughter during the investigation, and eventually cleared of any wrongdoing - sorry, our bad! His ex got away with it, while his daughter is pretty much fucked up all around.

He blames his ex. I blame the state for giving a psycho like her so much power.

These situations can get very ugly and unfair in a hurry but one thing is crystal clear:

Justice delayed is justice denied.

The Sarge doesn't post often(too bad), but when he does, it's quality stuff.

And Enfuego was also EN-FUEGO in this thread. Wish he'd post down here more often also, a sane, rational Conservative that isn't a blind, one note Conservative, that can actually look at individual issues, and sometimes realizes the conservative view is whacked.

He got probation, but if he violates the probation before he turns 18, the charges stick.

:)

the thought of that scares me, makes me feel small. If he's a minor, he should be handled differently.

he's lied so often about so much, I have no idea what's true or not

of course Paul's story which you cited suggests he's older, but I don't put it beyond him to create that whole narrative either

is there any person you've doubted more?

I take everything for what it is in each individual situation. I believe in an eye-for-an-eye but capital punishment doesn't work. It doesn't do what it's supposed to do so why continue to do it? This is not a conservative point of view on this topic.

Capital punishment does exactly what it's supposed to do, punish one for the crime he/she committed. Please tell me you're not one of those "the death penalty doesn't deter crime" people.

The death penalty isn't meant to deter future crime, it's strictly a punishment for a crime already committed.

I believe its goal is to deter and punish. Neither of which it is doing with any sort of effectiveness.

I'm in the justice for the family camp. I'm not a proponent of the death penalty because I think life in prison is a harsher penalty. Nothing makes me sleep better at night than knowing Scott Peterson is looking over his shoulders every second of the 30 minutes he gets out of his cell every day. The rest of the 23 1/2 hours is in segregated housing with people screaming at his candy ass.
