NASHVILLE - No wonder Jevon Kearse usually plays so well against the Jaguars, especially in Jacksonville. It's almost like his home away from home.
"It is a homecoming for me every time we play in Jacksonville," said Kearse, who is from Fort Myers, Fla.
"It is up the road from the University of Florida, and I always know I will have a good turnout as far as friends and family is concerned. I know I have to buy at least 40 tickets for this game, so I know I will have a lot of support when I take the field."
Kearse has seven sacks in his last three games against the Jaguars, including two last December that marked his only sacks in an injury-plagued year. Mark Brunell, who is out after surgery on his elbow, has been the quarterback Kearse has sacked most in his career with a total of 6.5 sacks.
Kearse earned honors Wednesday as the AFC defensive player of the week for the first time in his career. He was the AFC's defensive player of the month in December 1999 during his rookie season.
Now Kearse, who ranks second in the AFC with 6.5 sacks, will try to sack rookie quarterback Byron Leftwich on Sunday. Kearse has sacked 27 different quarterbacks in his career and added five new passers to that list this season.
Titans coach Jeff Fisher said he's seeing Kearse play like he did before he broke a bone in his left foot last season.
"He's chasing like he did before he got hurt. He's making the effort plays down the field. He's now defeating double-teams. He's handling the chip block," Fisher said.
Not bad for someone who's in the final year of his contract and looking for a new deal from the Titans.
Wycheck's Status: Tennessee tight end Frank Wycheck is improving from his latest concussion and might be able to play Sunday for the first time since the season opener.
"I feel confident that I turned the corner on this thing, and it's just a matter of when you go out there and test it and see where you're at," Wycheck said.
Wycheck has been out since suffering a concussion in Tennessee's victory over Oakland, his second concussion in less than a month. He took part in practice Wednesday and even had some contact with linebacker Rocky Boiman.
The Titans have a bye Nov. 2, and it would seem to make sense for Wycheck to rest another week instead of trying to return against Jacksonville.
But Wycheck, who remains listed as questionable, would like to get in on a handful of plays.
Other Injuries: Cornerback Samari Rolle remains out for Sunday's game because of the left elbow he separated and cracked on Oct. 5, but he has been running the last couple days. Safety Tank Williams (strained groin muscle) returned to practice. Rookie safety Donnie Nickey was listed out for Sunday's game, and he wore a walking boot on his right foot because of plantar fasciitis.
Patient Offense: The Titans lead the AFC and rank second in the NFL behind St. Louis in time of possession, holding the ball for 32 minutes, 22 seconds per game. And they're converting their possessions into points. They have scored 194 points, second in the NFL only to Green Bay's 200 points.
Kicking Away: Worries about whether or not Gary Anderson, the oldest active player in the NFL, still had strength in his leg should be erased by now. Anderson kicked three field goals last week against Carolina, marking the 74th time in his career he has had three or more in a game.
Anderson connected from 32, 34 and 40 yards in the game, and he is 10 of 11 on field goals this season and a perfect 18-for-18 on extra points. His only miss came on a 46-yarder on Oct. 5 at New England.
