A high school in Texas who in 2002 decided it was time to change name to raccoons , board members said they never realized 'coon' was a slang word for blacks hno: YEAH RIGHT .
In 1980 Pekin (Illinois) high school changed their name from Pekin CHINKS to the DRAGONS , I've been to Pekin ..... Not a big Chinese community there so why this school is fascinated with oriental nicknames is beyond me :think2:
Orofino ( Maine) MANIACS , kinda insulting that their teams are named after the mental patients at the original state mental hospital don't ya think hno: plus it's rumoured that they sit next to each other
Freeburg(Illinois) MIDGETS , their logo is an angry pissed off looking midget , they have been pressured in years past to change name & have stood their ground . GO MIDGETS
Robstown( Texas) COTTON PICKERS , doesn't bring to mind images of the modern day cotton industry does it ? , More like pre civil war images of blacks picking cotton in the deep south
Yuba city (california) HONKERS , it could be viewed as woman's breasts , a yuba city woman's group wants it changed . The HONKERS nickname comes from the Canadian geese that migrate through the area every year
Verona(New Jersey) HILLBILLIES , the logo was originally a hillbilly with a bottle of moonshine & a shotgun , later redesigned replacing moonshine & shotgun with a dog & a fishing pole
