Where is the best state to live in as of today? I'm in California. There is no end to the lockdown. I live in Orange County and we have had 80 deaths (out of 3.1m). The curve has been flattened but now we are apparently waiting on a vaccine for normalcy. Masks are more prevalent today than ever. I may need to move to a freer state. Visited Texas recently. Most in stores are wearing masks. I was able to go to sit down restaurant however (no mask required). Definitely an improvement over California.

What are your thoughts? Florida?, South Carolina? Wisconsin?

It's definitely not California!

S. Fl. Jupiter/Palm Beach Gardens quality of life is off the charts. Look it up, Palm Beach Gardens was just rated best quality of life last year in all of Fl. I wouldn't live anywhere else 325 days of sunshine a year!!!!!

I definitely like the sunshine. My primary focus is how these various states rate on an anti lockdown hysteria meter. I want my kids to be able to play sports in the fall. To what degree did these states shut down this spring? Are they shut down now? What is the likelihood that they will shutdown again in the fall?

Smaller the state, more rural the setting less likely shutdown during potential phase 2 IMO

But that is a lot of damn speculating about such a big move

If really serious about this my thoughts would be:

1) Eliminate any true blue states
2) Check several lists for top 10 growing/safe cities (throw out those in blue states)
3) Figure out what size city your family wants to live in
4) Weather matter? Hurricanes/Tornadoes/Earthquakes/Blizzards

Could go on, but figure out what matters most to your wife and kids ....

Good luck!

I think you have about 45 states to choose from if you are trying to find a better situation than California. We have had a huge influx of transplants here in Nevada over the past year and I know AZ is experiencing the same thing. When Trump changed the deductibility of state taxes, I think that was a last straw for many. You can bet the current Cal situation will drive many more away.

Louisiana is pretty loose on the rules .
Was in New Orleans when it was one of the biggest hot spots in the nation for covid and people looked at me funny when I walked into a store with a mask. The cashier was like wtf . I thought she was gonna call 911 for a second .

I hope I don’t get arrested for this but I ate inside a restaurant last week before phase 1 started . Shhhhh
