Frank Lampard question

I follow soccer occasionally and just read an article about Lampard possibly leaving Chelsea for Barcelona. I found this in the article and thought the phraseology was unusual.

Lampard, 28, has a Spanish partner and that has fuelled speculation that Barcelona would be his destination should he opt to leave London.

I read "partner" as boyfriend. If so, Lampard has to be the famous athlete to ever "come out" while still actively playing. Not really important, just curious. If this is old news, I apologize in advance.

Yes, he has a spanish partner, but it is a woman.
I think the name of his fiancee is Elen Rives and they have a child.
