no athelete of yester year can compete,, thomas edison didnt invent the internet either.. you compare to the ones around you,, meaning compare babe to the players of his day and barry to the players of today,, there is no comparison.. nether would barry be as big -- he would be a skinny guy.. todays players have the advantage.. this makes babe (all the better)..

Jman, i have compassion for the nostalgia of baseball,, i am not a big Babe fan,, i am a baseball fan.. i loved the ken burns series.. this is like comparing any horse to secritariat.. babe still has more homers, rbi's, the better average.. what is the argument..

I would'nt be so sure about Jim Thorpe, when you think of it he is one of the few old time atheletes that probably could play today in his particular sport. Thorpe was not only a great football player but an Olympic gold medal winner in track, a semi-pro baseball player, and a legend on the football field. I can easily see him competing somewhere on a NFL team if not running back then defensive back. Now George Mikan is another story, no way he competes in today's NBA.

C. Bench
1B. Murray
2B. Morgan
SS. Ripken (arod can be someday but not yet)
3B. Schmidt..
OF. Rose
OF. Aaron
OF. Bonds.

batting average,, yes, barry has more fly balls (go off the wall) for doubles and into the gaps,, he generates more bat speed.. yes roids helps the overall athletic performance..

Yeah , The Swingin A`s...that was a clssic team....The Orioles battled those A`s teams, in the early 70`s Orioles had the upper hand in the early 70`s then the A`s took over, then the Reds then the Yankees, ending with Baltimore vs Pittsburgh, great decade for baseball..

George Brett and Mike Schmidt after equally long and illustrious careers each ended up with 1595 RBI's. Strange but true. It's really a tough call as to who was better, Schmidt for power Brett just plain dangerous at the plate. Pressed I like Schmidt.
