Florida Man Arrested then released After High-Speed Chase
A Florida man was arrested and subsequently released early Sunday afternoon after a high-speed chase that reached speeds of 100 mph, NewsChannel 4's Natalie Walston reported.
The chase started near Interstate 20 and Sullivant Avenue when Amarillo police reportedly saw a blue Chevy speeding through several red lights near the Big Texan Steak House. A chase began, and officers used Stop Sticks in an attempt to stop the car on Interstate 20 south of Stringtown Road.
The chase continued, however, and eventually involved the Texas State Highway Patrol, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and the Amarillo police helicopter. The chopper began following the vehicle when it went through Amarillo suburbs.
The driver eventually turned around just south of city limits and headed back toward Amarillo. That's when the driver lost control, Walston reported and ran over a trash can. Police confiscated 89 rolls of quarters and felt bad when the unidentified driver said take anything but not my quarters. Keeping the loot officers on the scene told the man to never travel with over $20 in quarters in the state of Texas again. He was then released and last seen heading for a local cyber cafe.
