Saturday will be NHL fans' last opportunity in the postseason to watch two games on one day.

The conference finals begin with New Jersey playing at Ottawa in the East, and Anaheim opening the West series at Minnesota. Both series will be idle Sunday, with play resuming in the West on Monday. After that, the series are scheduled for games on alternate days.

At noon Saturday, ABC has the Devils-Senators opener. New Jersey, the No. 2 seed, lost the season series 3-1 to the top-seeded Senators. Both teams should be well-rested: The Devils eliminated Tampa Bay in the conference semis a week ago today, and Ottawa advanced by winning Game 6 of its series with Philadelphia on Monday.

Weariness will be more of an issue in the West. The Mighty Ducks have been idle since ousting Dallas on Monday. The Wild-Canucks series went seven games and ended Thursday night. ESPN2 will carry the West opener at 4 p.m.

I hate to see fewer games. Hockey (NHL) is the only sport I have made money betting in the last two years.....

After the playoffs I'm going cold turkey until next October......
