You mean you couldn't walk into the Bellagio and whip out a shoe box full of $100 bills and bet $55,000 to win $50,000? No matter who you were? I am asking. Really, I do not know the answer?

Most of these sports books are run by amateurs. For a major casino not to accept a 50-60-k bet is disgraceful. two years ago I was in town playing the horses. I happenned to wind up in the curcus circus... I dont know how or why I was in that hellhole, anyway Im playing the ponies at the racebook . I try to put in a $500 ,w,p bet and the clerk denied me ,the moron had to get the manager to approve it. I told the guy are you serious at the track I could bet 50k on a race and they dont blink ( and no I dont bet that much) The manager apoloigized and put the bet in. all the hassle for 1000 dollars....never play at a small two bit join again...and my horse ran 2nd and paid $3.80 so I had a small loss

The sportsbook is run just like a business (for most places), and they can deny anyone betting action at any time without providing a reason. If you were running a sportsbook and you knew that someone was an advantage player, why in the world would you let them bet $60k on a game? If this player has on average a 5% advantage, then you just cost yourself $3k for letting him bet.

I know a lot of people may disagree with me on this one, but I think it makes perfect sense from the standpoint of the sportsbook. However, there are certain known advantages to letting the sharps continue to do business with you, but I'll leave that one for another discussion.

Wow- So many good things here

First, I agree Fezzik's brain would be great to pick.

Iceman, may I have a good run in 2 weeks when I go for one of my many trips to my favorite city, Las Vegas.

Wil, you are correct, who is betting will control line movement is a very big way.

Lastly, you would have a tough time dropping 60K in most books in Vegas except if it is the Super Bowl or the AFC/NFC championship weekend. Two of my favorite weekends to vist Vegas and a big reason for my going, along with the fact that Caesars palace made me an offer I could not refuse.

That is a good point and probably one that is correct these days, especially on the strip. I thought about that when I was typing the post but my point was more about the difference between equally large bets made by so called square money and so called sharp money.

Who certainly means more than how much when it comes to large bets with real bookmakers. "Booking to faces" goes back 50 years or more.

Ding and Ding.

And yes you can bet 60k at some places. This is of course provided as long as your id, social secutiry number, etc, is on file and its determined your a square vs a sharp. Most whom complain do not want to comply with this aspect of this buisness. There are all kinds of rules and regulations. If you want to bet big money, then be prepared to have all your info reported accordingly.

In any event, quit your crying. THANKS.

Any one who has a host can get down for a lot more than that most times. They can not be told no.

Wise guys know this and constantly stake these type of players out. Once they turn them, they send the "guest of the hotel' in to make bets at way bigger amounts than they can get in at. Its easy to spot. You get a give umm, give me ummm, square bettor, that all of a sudden turns into a confident bettor calling out bets on the hot games and numbers.

They do not have to be big bets either at that.

Until you face a guy up a few times, you have to police your book and everyone betting in it an a strict and fair manner. You just cant let people come up and bet any ole thing for any ole amount they see fit.

It is a privlege to bet in a sportsbook. Not a right.

The ones who get more privleges than others are the ones who act correctly and are polite.

The ones who dont, are the ones you always see and hear, yip, yapping about my bookie this, Las Vegas crap that. Like there someone special or that anyone even cares.
