[h=3]ALEX FERGUSON has stepped up the mind games ahead of the Manchester derby by claiming: There would be a House of Commons inquiry if we won as many penalties as City.[/h] League leaders Manchester United make the short trip to Eastlands on Sunday knowing victory will pull them six points clear of their neighbours.
And Fergie, in trademark style, has pointed out that the reigning champions have had a staggering 21 spot-kicks awarded at home since the start of the 2010-11 season.
The United boss said: “If we got that number of penalty kicks there’d be an inquiry in the House of Commons. There’d be a protest.”
Bizarrely, Ferguson’s men have actually been awarded more penalties so far this season than their arch-rivals.
The difference, however, is that United have missed four of them.
Wily Scot Fergie would never admit that he is simply trying to pile the pressure on referee Martin Atkinson ahead of what could prove to be a pivotal day in the title race.
But he accepts that Roberto Mancini’s City have now overtaken Liverpool as his side’s fiercest rivals.
Ferguson added: “Liverpool and United games over the last 25 years have been unbelievable. They’ve always been the most important games.
“It’s shifted because at this moment Liverpool aren’t challenging for the league like City are.
“City are our biggest threat and we’re their biggest threat, so that’s changed.
“Their fortunes changed the minute Sheikh Mansour took over. We knew the minute that happened it was going to be a different ball game altogether.
“But, as we have in the past, we have to accept their challenge like we did when Chelsea came along and when Arsenal overtook Liverpool in the early 90s.
“We have to do it again.”

if we had 21 penalties awarded it would only be an extra 6 goals

it's actually tiresome listening to that washed up has been.....oh wait you're not talking about arsenal......but seriously every other 'big game' sir alex says something. Of course the 'can't-let-go-of-the-past' arsenal fan in me is cheering for a united victory.......we are the invincibles afterall...but playing this side game is so boring. Of course City gets penalties...they move the ball so well in the box you have to trip them up...and they have floppers from italy and spain. But United get more calls for them then any team in the world. (and 9 mins of stoppage time whenever they are tied or losing by 1).

it's actually a pretty nice sunday ticket for the EPL - manchesters + ever/totten and watch liverpool lose....great day for football.

Dial-I don't think u have anything to be worried about w/your invincibles...if we win Sunday, I am taking a loan out to bet Newcastle the following weekend....the northeast is a no-mans land for a good deal of the league....honestly, it's a tough draw regardless of the outcome Sunday.....city notoriously play like dregs in the northeast(Newcastle, Sunderland)....and Merseyside(Liverpool, Everton)

haha....i was talking about arsene....i respect all Scotish people. Even if they manage manchester united. I hadn't read the henry was official - i don't see the problem. He did his part last time scoring in an fa cup match and one i think in the epl. We are hurting or have no ability at the striker spot so maybe he can do it again. Robert Pires on the other hand.....hahaha....

If Everton keeps bringing in donovon i don't see the problem with arsenal and henry. Maybe henry will get us through the next CL round.....hhaha

didn't know they were looking at donovan again. seemed like he was hurt all year but he actually appeared in more games than in any season in his career...38 when you include the everton stop. he actually played 1000 more club minutes than in 2011...not sure he'd be much use to everton this year

donovan probably not going just using it as an example of worst things to do with a MLS team. I guess Arsene got the house of commons break today. 2-0 but two penalities - first one a spanish dive worthy of olympics or moose hunting - a win is a win and i didn't catch the match but still not a good result. I do wish FIFA or UEFA or the FA would ban players 1-2 games for it...eduardo got a 2 match ban a few years back but they certainly don't enforce the rules enough....to me Cazorla should miss at least 1 match for it.
