Then we can agree to disagree,

Undefeated, just got a ranking, national television. Keep winning and get a major bowl invitation.

That's a lot more to play for than hosting ND off a loss. That game is in 9 days. Lose tonight, and how big is that game?

You don't think they want to host ND off a win and improving their ranking, staying undefeated and setting up the biggest game perhaps in school history?

Or would they rather lose tonight's game due to a lack of focus, and host ND after losing a game and their ranking, not to mention any hopes of getting a major bowl i invitation.

Temple has a LOT to play for tonight, you guys are putting way too much into the ND is next situation. We all understand sports and psychology.

i had forgotten about that chaos from last year....one of the most lopsided non-wins of the season.

first downs ECU 30-10
total yards ECU 428-135
fumbles lost ECU 5-0

first fumble was returned for temple TD, second was fumble on own 39 ... right there was 14-0 and ended up being game over. Temple had 2.4 yards per play in the game

Look at the strength of schedule these two teams have played up to date. Who's played the tougher competition? :think2:
i always defer to the S&P+ ratings for SOS

Temple = 115
East Carolina = 60

if you prefer Sagarin then:

Temple = 125
East Carolina = 44

pretty much what anyone that ever lost in a clear look-ahead situation thought, after they lost.

no doubt they might hammer ECU tonight but you can't overlook the situation. Playing a team you beat by 20 last year and getting one of the blue bloods of college football not only AT HOME but on national prime time ABC on Halloween night?

you're telling me these kids, when they signed to, ahemm, Temple, figured they would be the feature prime time game vs Notre Dame with ESPN GameDay on the way? serious look-ahead situation and will tell us a lot about the coach tonight. If he can focus his team in this spot the power-5's should be lining up with offers

Just saw this Tide.

As the game played out, it was anything but a "clear" look ahead. Far from it.

Playing a game against ND on national television is nice. But when you have a ranking, are undefeated, and in line for major bowl consideration.....that takes precedence over a game that is 9 days away. Why are they getting Game Day, and a national television appearance? Because they Are ranked, because they are undefeated. You think they want to throw that all away by "looking ahead"?? They will still get the appearance, but it would have taken a lot of the starch out of that game if they had lost.

The part you highlighted is exactly the reason it WASN'T a look ahead spot.

A look ahead spot is LSU playing a Non-Conf game before a huge SEC showdown the following week. This game was anything but a look ahead, they had far too much to lose by not getting that win last night.

I only played under here because of all the positive forces colliding and neutralizing/negating each other.
Temple is that scroungy,looks like crap on offense team that irks you to death if you didn't bet on them.

all the systems had temple and under but i couldn't pull the trigger because i really thought it was an awful spot. if systems weren't all over temple i would have bet ECU for sure. that being said i didn't watch the game but saw they scored 2x late to win it and then read this from temple website. doesn't exactly sound like they were focused to me...but, who cares. they won and ABC now doesn't have egg on their face for selecting the ND game for national tv. Terps might as well send Matt Rhule a job offer this afternoon because if he beats the domers his price might go up a half mil/yr from the increase he will already be expecting

Temple's own take on the game:

For three quarters, the Pirates defense held Temple to 162 total yards of offense. Of those 162 yards in the first three quarters, Temple had 123 of those on two drives. For three quarters, Temple looked completely inept

I was at work, but was able to watch a lot of it. The offense wasn't very good until they had to be. QB missing throws, but that crew loves to throw flags. Listened to the ECU broadcast driving to work, they mentioned that too. Game had no flow, partly because of the penalties.

It was a grind of a game, not pretty to watch like a lot of Temple games. Like you said, who cares right?? Different people see things differently. All good.

Have you heard that Terps want the Temple coach?

Temple had about 150 total yards through 3 quarters and something like 10+ dropped passes. They were clearly flat and not as prepared as possible. Whether this was due to officially "looking ahead" or whatnot who knows, but as predicted they came out super flat. Unfortunately ECU played far too conservatively in second half (2 long marching at will drives stall on 4th and short from around 35-43 yard line, and punt both times unreal {REmember ruffin KNEELED twice before allowing Breshad perriman Hail Mary TD vs UCF last year} Ruffin is a terrible coach) had 2 costly turnovers and didn't make enough plays to win. I was off in that I expected them to be very dialed in, and they simply couldn't execute on a few key plays (2 blocked punts last 3 possesions etc). Certainly not a terrible beat, and congrats to Temple backers, but just b/c spot doesn't hit, doesn't mean it wasn't a valid spot . I'll stand by my thought that Temple would have some degree of "lookahead" going on, and their VILE offensive performance up to 5 min left in 4th QTF confirms this imo.
