Your right greenie, I am letting cloud my mind. Still winning though...But I need to wrap this ASAP. It has nothing to do with the amount, but friendship and planning for the upcoming football season. Got to roll...Best wishes...OF

I think a lot of good advice has come out in this thread.....difficult situation described but I think 'FROG is handling it well....

A while back I was talking to a friend of mine who was talking about how local guys posed no threats, that they weren't going to break somebody's legs over a few hundred dollars of non-payment.....then he had the nerve to ask me if I'd place a bet or two for him if the need arose.....say he wanted 2 or 3 hundred on a game, if I could help him out.....

I didn't tell him exactly what I was thinking....but why should I give him the chance to stiff me if he's not willing to pay a bookie? If he wins I pay him tomorrow, If he loses I don't see him and can't find him, and I am the one to get stiffed......

I told him about the offshore scene and that if he was really serious about gambling and wanted a real deal then send some money off, pick up a start-up bonus, give me a referral bonus, and we'd both be happy....he seemed pretty sour about that.....I just figured he didn't have the money and was looking for a free shot.....

I've placed bets for friends in the past, but anymore if they want to bet I turn them towards starting up thier own offshore account....most of them get cold feet at that point and just seem to be content with finding some local guy that will screw them with crummy lines and hours and deal a second number in tune with thier betting tendencies.....

All in all I can say my experiences with calling friends bets in for them have been almost always negative.......the lines change, they still want the original number or some odd number that come from the newspaper.....they're nervous about small bets that add up to little more than beer money.....if you give them a tip or opinion on a game and they decide to bet it....if it wins you hear nothing from them, if it loses, they rub it in your face even though the last 3 all won.....

A pair of my friends....one of them is into stocks, the other doesn't gamble on anything at all....the latter mentioned that if he was to give one of us a thousand dollars to bet, that he wouldn't know which one of us to give it to....gambling with someone else's money is a whole lot different subject altogether.....I doubt I would accept the $1000 knowing he's not the gambling type and there would be expectations of profit involved.....

I've just found it best to let these people create thier own offshore accounts.....if I was to give them anything it would be leads to websites I use for gambling purposes.....read what you like and draw whatever conclusions you like and bet accordingly.....then all the blame or loss is directly on thier own shoulders...

Not under my skin, just have no use for internet worms like you. You think this is some kind of game, messing with people. I think this is a business. We do not mix. I do not like your type, and step on their skinny necks whenever posssible. You cost a lot of people on this board a lot of money with your under the skin game playing. Are you proud of that? May I have the good fortune to meet you in person someday. Maybe you can make up for lack of me posting plays by posting your own. Highly doubt you have the balls. More likely of you to stick with lurking. Are you even a man??? OF

This was a good thread, with a lot of good ideas and thoughts. But you have to bring your lame lurking loser ass in it to mess with me. What is the point, whatever? Like I said, go to the bash, wear a great big Sancho Panza name tag, and brag how you ran OF off of RX, actually just got me to post plays elsewhere. Are you really that dense? Why don't you try to be part of the solution instead of majority of the problem...You are like a malignant tumor...Is that funny also? Why don't you post a topic, like does anyone like me? Try it, just to see where you stand. What people think of you. Do you care? Unreal...OF

Well O.F. you are a gambler and should understand odds.

So if it was a little of both, factor in how much it was each way and do the math. If it was 50/50 then you could credit him 800. If it were 60(your)/40(him) then credit him 640, and so on.

I too have taken bets for guys, way back when (before cell phones)I used to go to the track daily, and used to bet the double and a few exactas for this guy, one day I didn't get in in time to bet the first race, and the guys horse won, and of course he hit the thing. I paid him. I told him what happened, but I still paid him.

He gave the gratuitous "no you don't have to" but he had called to get the results and already had the money spent in his mind. So I was screwed basically. Ethically I didn't really have to pay him, (my ethics anyways), but I did. Had the thing lost I probably would have given him his money back and said I didn't get there in time. But that is the way I am.

BUT, from then on I booked a few of his bets myself, something I had never done before. So it was a trade off. I told him I was going to book them, and he understood. See, gamblers that gamble all the time understand these things. He knew, without me telling him I had to recoup that missed play. If/when he won I still paid, but in the end I was probably further ahead.

But it is up to you. Only you know what kind of nuances you and this guy have together. And with a decision like this, that isn't so cut and dry those things have to weigh into whatever decision you ultimately make.

Great answer 4moi. It is not cut and dry. But I cannot let it fester and become an open wound in our friendship. Just a real life situation with no right answer...OF

I will start the sitdown with what a bad beat, refuse his money, but break the no bonus news. Then setup plans for football. It will save him face, which is actually all this is about. Very strong in his culture. He will be glad for the out, feel like he actually is paying by foregoing bonus, and be eager to make it up to me this year. I will not ask for, nor accept any money...OF

OF,

I have had TONS of problems with friends taking advantage of me with $$$, cauz I am always the guy with more money than others & alot of my friends are always broke...

In a serious situation I find it is very therapeutic for both parties to write your thoughts down in an email & send them to your buddy...explaining how you feel....

OF, your "close" friend sounds alot like my friend. He's a phony but overall a good guy. It bothers you alot that he is blowing you off for the $1600. I would ask him when he plans to make good on the mnoey he owes you. If he blows you off again then you will have to refuse anymore gambling partnerships with him. You don't want to lose his friendship over the $1600 but I guarantee you he would lose you if it meant not re-paying you the $1600.
