I'm having a bummer of a year so I won't infect the board with my picks just yet...but I would like to hear everyone else's thoughts, especially Lakerfan if he's out there.

Wow, no interest at all this time around? The books seem to have gotten decent action.

I'll keep it short and simple...only two plays stand out on the card. Odds still available at Sportsbook.com and BetWWTs.com. I believe OLY has closed. Show does not start until 8 PM ET.

1. James Spader
Best Dramatic Actor +400-+500

Opened at 8-1 and bet down to 4-1. Most pundits are expecting LaPaglia to take this, but Emmy voters seem to love The Practice when they have their game face on. Spader essentially made such a splash that he's getting a spinoff, which is unusual for a show that was on its last legs.

Shatner and Sharon Stone won at the prelim Emmy ceremony last weekend for their guest roles on the show. That may mean nothing, may mean something. I think his is the strongest, most impressive performance of the five nominated. Someone mentioned how much voters like to reward David E. Kelley actors, as well. I've liked this play since it opened. He's really, really good.

2. The Daily Show
Best Comedy/Variety Series -120

Opened at +200. Chappelle's Show was the popular pick going in, but there's no way DS loses in an election year. Pretty easy winner, IMO.

I also put a couple hundred bucks down on Matt LeBlanc and Larry David for Best Comedic Actor, as their odds were astronomical. (+2000-+3000.) There's a chance Ritter and Grammer will split the votes and a dark horse could come in. David was especially good in his season finale. I don't really expect them to win, though.

That's all, folks. Enjoy the show.

James Spader pulls through for the upset win!

Y'know this is why I didn't bother this year. Allison Janney winning and James Spader winning.

....most picked Edie Falco and Anthony LaPaglia to win.

Hope the couple of wins you have here have rescued your year.

Pray for me tomorrow win I have to talk to a bookie a la Boxing Freak (I have my own *BLEEP* mess to deal with).

WHEW! Thanks, Boss. Naturally, I need to wager on one of the final awards of the evening...for whoever thinks this show is long, believe me, it can get longer.

I busted my bankroll earlier and never got to the Daily Show wager, which would've pissed me off in a major way if Spader had not come in.

Thank you, JAMES!
