Thing is with the way the rules are written, the ref shouldn't blow his whistle unless he is 100% sure. With fumbles, you are able to award the ball to the recovering team even if the whistle blew. In this situation, with a pass atempt, you can not. This is the reason Hochuli should have just let the play finish and then make his way to the inevitable review, especially under the 2:00 minute mark.

I agree with what you say. Refs should have a delay before blowing the whistle just in cases like this.

The Chargers could always start looking in the mirror instead of playing the blame game.

whats done is done...there were a couple of other plays in that game with questionable calls by the ref..but whats the point..it's not going to change anything

this is one of the hard things about football..you have to wait a whole week before the next game after something like this! Be optimistic bolts fans..we were 1-3 last year and everyone thought it was over

if we can take care of the jets..we play oakland..whormoan nows how that always turns out..and after that miami...3-2 is not far fetched!

Upside for me. I had a friend who was down very big for the week going into that halftime.

He bet 1 dime on Chargers 2nd half and the over for another dime.

He hit both when Denver scored after that. He won half his money back he lost the past weekend.

He got the rest back tonight.

Ed is his best friend and can stay for dinner anytime.

Ed has taken many hateful e-mails from that play. Here is one that was quite interesting from a friend of mine sent to him Wednesday:

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tbody> <tr> <td valign="top"> Ed,

Unfortunately, San Diego fans can't accept the fact that players decide games. I've always thought you were a great ref, so hang in there. The defense of SD lost that game, plain and simple. I wish sports fans would realize this is for entertainment and not life or death. Being a lifelong Cubs fan, maybe I've learned that lesson a lot quicker than others out there. Anyhow, wanted to give you some encouragement since so many idiots out there are taking this way too far.

Today, my friend got a response:

Thank you so much for writing. I really appreciate the kind words of support. It was very nice of you to have taken the time to write me. I will learn from this mistake and move on, but this one will live with me for a long, long time.
Thank you,
Ed Hochuli

Amen. Refs have to be allowed to make mistakes. They are inevitable. Players make mistakes, coaches make mistakes, and yes, officials make mistakes. Can't give everyone else a pass, and demand perfection from another human being. The people that sent this guy hate mail are losers.

I bet my next door neighbor (Denver fan) on that game. I took SD pk. This was by far the biggest bet I have had thus far this year in the NFL.

Now I can handle that I lost via a bad call. But that c*ksucker came by here last night to pick up his money and was talking shit the whole time. Kept saying how the Broncos were the best team in the NFL and Shanahan was the best coach ever. That was the first time I got pissed about the bet. I told him to STFU, Hochuli gave him that game and if I were him I would STFU.

We about got into it...
