Stephen F. Austin hands Duke first nonconference loss at home since 2000

Jeff Borzello
ESPN Staff Writer
Stephen F. Austin stunned Duke on a buzzer-beating layup by Nathan Bain in overtime Tuesday night, giving the Lumberjacks the sport's biggest Division I upset win in 15 years.

Gavin Kensmil picked up a loose ball in the final seconds and passed it to Bain at the Lumberjacks' own foul line; Bain then dribbled it the length of the court to finish a layup at the buzzer.

The Blue Devils were favored by 27.5 points at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, surpassing Gardner-Webb's upset win over Kentucky in 2007, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

Stephen F. Austin overcame a 15-point deficit to take the lead in the second half, and forced overtime on a Kensmil layup with 19 seconds left. Cassius Stanley missed a contested midrange jumper at the buzzer.

It was Duke's first nonconference loss at home since 2000, a span of 150 games.

I watched this last nite.

Funny b/c i remember the Tuesday of Thanksgiving (maybe 5 years ago) when Indiana lost to Fort Wayne. I had the Indy money line big and I spent the rest of the rest of Thanksgiving week (on vacation) trying to dig out of a whole. WAsnt fun!!

I'm absolutely convinced that if K and Calipari did not have 5 future pros on every team they'd miss the tourney every other year

Like it!

He's a great coach, but he is definitely "Phil Jackson'd". That is, you can't tell how good a coach he is b/c he's had a loaded deck his whole career.

He should be fined for stealing all that oxygen while on court, though.

Thats why I try to talk myself out of big moneyline plays or parlays. Even when you win one you usually have to sweat it out. And if you lose one then you feel like chasing

Been there done that
