It may vary by state, but I've never heard of them having to do or say anything.

Required in Florida. I see it in the paper when I travel down there.

I usually get a phone call when they are going on up in my area so I don't know if they are required.

I also think that it varies from State to State.

In Ohio they have to print them in a local paper the day before. Monetarily, they are the least efficient way to catch drivers under the influence. Really, just a PR device and an easy way for a bunch of cops to earn overtime
