When I had my house built I had a DSL cable hard wired right in to the house, so I use DSL.......I love it, fast enough for me.

eric17 - Cable is the best for speed for the price but as the General wrote above it can slow down if you have allot of your neighbors on at the same time...kind of like a party line.

Where as DSL is usually the same constant speed.
Find out what speed the DSL is in your area.

I have a friend that lovesd his cable Internet as he lives in a town where not many people are coking off the bandwidth and he cruises everyday at 1meg+, and that you can't do with DSL.

I hate to keep pushing DSL, but I went to the dslreports website and re-tested twice from two different server locations. Both came back with about 1225Kbps, or 1.2Mbps.

I just did the SPEED TEST,These were the results I got:

2003-10-21 23:23:52 EST: 1736 / 249
Your download speed : 1736850 bps, or 1736 kbps.
A 212 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 249469 bps, or 249 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

Exactly what this means,I don't know!
If anyone knows please inform me.
I am using Comcast cable of Jersey City.

RecordKeeper, you have 1736Kbps, or 1.7Mbps download speed, and 249Kbps upload speed. That's about 42 percent faster than my DSL download speed above. Upload is almost exactly the same, though I had not listed mine.

Recordkeeper, that's a very good speed. Comcast is supposed to limit you to 1.5 mb, so you're getting a little more than you should. You're in great shape.

If it's means anything to you, that's more bandwidth that a T1 (which is 1.54mb)

People who boast 1.2 megs of speed on DSL are paying for tyhat speed, where is cable users get that speed and many times, faster. It;s true that cable is shared, and DSL is your own line, but, I have never had a problem with cable in my 5 months of having it. I have had DSL and enjoyed it alot, but IMO cable is better (for me)

Cheater, I'm not boasting, I'm only showing a comparision. And I pay about $45/mo. which is very comparable to cable. I'm not paying for anything special. BellSouth has recently come out with DSL Lite, which is cheaper and slower - somewhere between full DSL and ISDN speed.
