Speeding cameras are a joke imo. I don't mind the red light cameras so much because you either run the light or you don't. I can see where there would be problems with the speed cameras.

"Our whole goal is not to issue tickets, just to get people to drive the speed limit," Lt. Jeff King said.

Presto please explain why not stopping to turn right should exempt you from a ticket?

Depends on how short the yellow light is. You can see a yellow light and drive through a red and get your picture taken when there is no possible way traffic coming from the sides would come close to hitting you unless they jumped the gun first.

I think he knows it's illegal. I think he's referring to this statement from his link.

"A recent Tribune investigation found that few camera-generated tickets in the suburbs were issued to drivers who blow through red lights, a violation that can lead to dangerous broadside accidents and deaths. Instead, up to 90 percent of suburban tickets went to drivers who failed to come to a complete stop while making a right turn on red, a common yet still illegal maneuver that safety experts agree rarely leads to serious accidents."

Well, here in Texas the photo tickets are civil in nature. It doesn't matter who is driving the vehicle, the ticket will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle.

You can dress up however you like, the ticket will be sent to the registered owner and he/she will be responsible for the ticket.

Bottomline, it doesn't matter whose driving the vehicle.

As a matter of fact some lawyer here has already tried to fight this in court and has lost everytime.

same thing in my town. one of the local attorneys spend about $2000 fighting his ticket that was $124......he lost and now he is doing it again with another one. dumb dumb dumb....they are just civil infractions...pay it and move on

I know here in Houston the cameras are only in intersections that are found to have high accident rates. Every ticket is reviewed by officers who will dismiss the ticket if in fact no obvious violation occured.

I doubt that if the light was yellow and then turned red while you're in the intersection would warrant a ticket here. I believe that if a ticket were mailed to you you would win that argument in court.

Yeah, this one attorney I'm referring to was getting the tickets on purpose and then filing lawsuits to have them declared illegal. Needless to say he lost every battle in court.

not only do we have still shots of the vehicles violating the law, our cameras take rolling video of the violator vehicle. each one is reviewed by an officer before issued. a lot of folks just fill out an affidavit of non liability and transfer the ticket into someone elses name.

The red light cameras are something that nobody can ever agree on. There are those people who say that cops shoul dbe out catching the real criminals, and those that complain that cops don't write enough tickets.

Like I said, Houston determined the 20-40 most dangerous intersections for accidents and place the cameras there. We have no speeding cameras here.

Glad you brought this up.
Chance are the city shortened the yellow light so they could increase profits.

Thanks texansfan for expanding on what I should have said in response to getting a ticket for not stopping while turning right aka California stop.

These contraptions INCREASE ACCIDENTS.

I'd bet that most states have a catch all violation where this would apply....Limiting peripheral vision, impairing hearing, etc.

Cool story though. Was LOL'ing whwn I heard it on The Herd this morning. Luckily, we only have red light cams out here in SoCal.

That's what I mean. Wearing some rubber Halloween style mask, while driving can't be safe ! If I were a cop, I'd sure cite said driver for something. He'd look like he just robbed a bank, or something, in my cop eyes.

The reason he is right is this ~ THEY wrote the laws. In this case they have to be able to ID the driver. Once the government can massage and alter (oh this is what we really meant) and change the laws that THEY wrote we are in big trouble. He is just holding them to the letter of the law.
