Gainesville, FL (Sports Network) - Florida sophomore guard/forward Christian Drejer has decided to leave the men's basketball team in order to pursue a professional career in Spain.
Drejer started 20 games this season for the Gators and averaged 10.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per outing.
"Over the last 48 hours, Christian had a very difficult decision to make with a very lucrative contract offer in Barcelona, Spain," said head coach Billy Donovan. "After taking time to make a decision, Christian has decided it's in his best interest to move on and this is an opportunity he cannot pass up for himself and his future. We're disappointed that Christian made this decision during this particular time of the season, however, we wish him nothing but the best of luck as he pursues his personal goals." In his two campaigns with Florida, Drejer participated in 38 games and averaged 7.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per contest.
Florida (14-8, 5-6 SEC) has dropped two in a row and four of its last five games. On Monday, the Gators dropped out of the top 25 for the first time since February 8, 1999, a span of 94 polls. They were briefly ranked No. 1 back in December.
