GOP Budget: $100 million for Poland Military

Bush to Seek 50% Increase in Military Aid to Poland

President Bush said today that he would seek a 50 percent increase in American military assistance to Poland, a staunch ally in Iraq but one engaged in debate over withdrawing its entire force from that country.

The reason for the increase of military aid.

"Poland's been a fantastic ally," Mr. Bush said, "because the people of Poland love freedom."
Senator John Kerry was right again, the coalition of the willing is really coalition of the bribed, the coerced ...

I don't think John Kerry- Heinz has ever been right? Well he thought one time he was right but then said "No left me rephrase that ...I'm wrong I think" Well either way I'm not sure but let me go back to it when I know but wait I think I'm right again.....oh wait no,no I'm wrong!!! Well it really depends on how it ends in the end but I think I'm right if Bush said I'm wrong, but if he said I'm right....I'm definately wrong...yeah I think that's right...oh no wrong I mean!!!

This is not funny, it looks like the US is pretty desperate.

If you want real support.
Get a proper exit strategy with a timetable.

(A darker side has just occurred to me too.
Its probaly a lot cheaper to outsource military duties via wedges of cash to poorer countries.
I hope this does not become a policy to sustain unpopular stuff like Iraq)

Poland has been one of the US's staunch allies in Iraq

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><!-- E IIMA -->US President George W Bush is asking Congress for $400m (£215m) to reward a number of countries that sent troops to Afghanistan and Iraq.

A White House spokesman said the money would "assist nations which have taken political and economic risks".

The fund is part of a $80bn war funding request President Bush will send to Congress next week.

It is thought the money could prove an incentive for countries to stay in Iraq. Several nations have withdrawn.

'Promoting freedom'

Poland, for instance, which has 2,500 troops in Iraq, will receive $100m.

Mr Bush announced the Polish donation during a meeting with Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski.

"Poland has been a fantastic ally because the president and the people of Poland love freedom," Mr Bush said.

"I know the people of your country must have been thrilled when the millions of people went to the polls" in Iraq, he added.

The fund, called the Solidarity Initiative, will benefit countries "promoting freedom around the world", Mr McClellan said in a statement.

"These funds... reflect the principle that an investment in a partner in freedom today will help ensure that America will stand united with stronger partners in the future," he added.

Officials declined to say which other nations would benefit, but there has been suggestion that the fund will help to Eastern European nations, such as Ukraine, Hungary, Romania and the Baltic states.

It could also be used as an incentive not to leave the coalition in Iraq. Spain, Singapore, Nicaragua, New Zealand, Thailand, the Philippines, Norway and Honduras have all pulled out. Democratic Sen Joseph Biden of Delaware, the ranking minority member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the plan was indicative of the administration's inability to attract more well-to-do nations to the coalition at the start of the conflict.

"It's kind of a shame," he told the Associated Press news agency. "The reason we're having to do this is that we never reached out to those who have the ability and capacity to do this to begin with," he said.

its unreal. everytime you read something about these guys, theyre just doing something stupid again. too funny, they hold an election in iraq and all the rightys crawl out of the wood works to talk about how great bush is. the other 99% of the time, no where to be found. just bashing these people like us, but they wont talk becuase they voted republican (whoops).

I agree it's completely stupid of the US to send that money. For one, a good chunk of it (about half) will get stolen by the corrupt politicians, and for another, the easiest way to get any of these countries to co-operate is just send over the Sec. of State and give 'em a firm talkin' to. They'll co-operate for no other reason than sh*tting their pants. It's a helluva lot cheaper doing it that way and equally effective.I'm actually talking against my own interests here since any money sent to Hungary will probably benefit me in some form or another.
