Does your spouse have a claim towards the funds you have at online sportbooks and can the courts do anything to have you divulge all of your accounts, etc in case of a divorce?

Not sure about the specific legal status of offshore funds, but if they get an attorney who knows what they're doing they can make it *very* difficult for you. My ex-wife's attorney essentially told me that unless I gave her whatever she wanted from my offshore bankroll that she'd drop a dime to some of her cronies in our state's attorney general office and have me investigated for being a bookmaker. I wasn't, of course, but she did manage to get a couple of agents out to hassle me just to prove she had the juice and since they're the ones with the guns and handcuffs I didn't think they'd buy the very logical explanation that its my "sports wagering bankroll".

From the tone of your question it might be too late, but if and when I get married again a pre-nup is a must. When my ex and I married neither of us had much of anything, so I didn't think it was important at the time and ended up paying through the nose ten years out.

Do you think the bookmakers would have to divulge any information per court order? otherwise how would the court have any record of how much money you have offshore?

The bookmakers would not do shit.

But the judge might not be too kind if the wifey tells him you are hiding money.

Best bet is NEVER sign the I give you half document.

Dunno about PA, but here in CA if you get caught purposefully failing to disclose assets/income, you will be giving over MORE than half. Court sees it as a sin against them [perjury, fraud] as much as against your spouse.

the worst they could probabley do is arrest you for illegal activities if the a bill is passed makeing it legal to go after the bettor. also try not to draw any unwarrented attention to yourself i.e. bragging to your significant other about money you won. Trust me, it's a whole lot easier to not tell them because the average person doesn't understand that we have our ups and downs and heaven forbid if you had a bad week they would ask " where's the money?" you don't want to tell em you lost it

Actually, until she hit me up for a divorce out of the blue we were fairly happily married and I was open with her about how much money I had where. She even had my Neteller log-in info and for years I trusted her to make transactions if I was away from my computer. That's what I get for being a trusting husband I guess..

In any case, my future plan is to a) make sure any money like gambling bankroll, etc is well hidden or b) make sure I have an airtight pre-nup

One of the best lines about marriage--I think it was Johnny Carson--who said that he'd given up on marriage. If he ever thought about getting married he'd buy some woman he didn't like a new house and his urge to marry would subside...

Not enough. I will simply keep certain accounts a secret too.

Why is it that I am still not married?

You know how they catch the big drug dealers, bookies, tax cheats?

pissed off girlfriends, wifes or neighbors or friends...

the less people know about your business the better, it's too late for you now, pay her what she wants keep all that 'gambling' shit out of the court papers... let it be said, let it be written.

Yes, your wife has a right to them.

Yes, a judge can ask you to divulge them. If you lie, you get contempt and a judge who will fuck you on the split.

Can a judge prove if you lie? I guess that depends on how much your wife knows...

Better question - I seriously can not understand why anyone marries someone with less worth than themselves...

A couple of times a year when I get withdrawals I have the check written to my wife instead of me. Then I give her 20% of my winnings. She likes it because she considers it free money and she gets off my back. She does not realize but I keep all the receipts of her checks at work. If we ever do get a divorce, and she tries to play the off shore gamling thing, I have evidence she was part of it too. To me it's worth the small investment in her to keep things "even" when she gets a lawyer.

Hard to believe the marriage didn't work out.
