I'm reading Imperial Hubris by the anonymous CIA Agent that has been involved with Afghanistan and the Muslim world for over 20 years. His take is a little different.

He says that Osama bin Laden, as repulsive as he is to Americans, is a source of great pride and admiration to a large percentage of the Muslim world. Reason: He gave up trappings of wealth to live in caves and risk everything he had to defeat the Red Army in defense of Islam. He even compares their view of him to a modern day Robin Hood.

Before you righties get all worked up, this isn't his opinion of Osama, it's his take on the Muslim world view of Osama. And it's important because you have to know your enemy.

So what are Osama's goals? He wants to create a Caliphate of Islamist states in the Middle East. He sees the US as propping up corrupt Middle Eastern states like Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and others with military bases and he sees these nations as flawed in the eyes of Islam.

This is Mud's extrapolation but Saddam had a secular state in Iraq where Christianity is tolerated. While they may have shared a hatred of America, saddam was more interested in keeping power by running a secular state than he was in turning over his power to fundamental Islam. No way Saddam and Osama would ever work together.

In fact, the al -qaeda terrorist camp in Al - Ansar in northern Iraq was run in an area under Kurdish domination and where saddam's army did not patrol.

So what is my point? That I think I'm realistic in saying that:

- No ties between al qaeda and Saddam
- but although it's politically incorrect to say, a larger portion of the Muslim world supports the actions of Osama then we are led to believe

Benny,

Should we ignore the attacks? Clintoon ignored WTC1 in 1993 and it happened again on a scale 500x worse. You people entertain me at times, however you never say much worth considering. bush bombs bad, clinton bombs good and kerry bombs better sorta bores me. Carry on.

Marco has made the most sense lately, I do agree with him on some points.

I agree with the 2nd part, but I don't know if it is as much as the Muslims supporting his actions as much as they support anyone against the West...kind of like Bonnie and Clyde becoming heroes as they 'fought' against the goverment during the Depression.

I belive the 9-11 commission has said there were contacts between Al-Queda and Iraq, but nothing to indicate that Iraq had anything to do with 9-11. Initially Bin Laden and Hussein agreed to a truce. Iraq then was interested in helping Bin Laden overthrow the Saudis according to this story
"Papers found yesterday in the bombed headquarters of the Mukhabarat, Iraq's intelligence service, reveal that an al-Qa'eda envoy was invited clandestinely to Baghdad in March 1998.

The documents show that the purpose of the meeting was to establish a relationship between Baghdad and al-Qa'eda based on their mutual hatred of America and Saudi Arabia. The meeting apparently went so well that it was extended by a week and ended with arrangements being discussed for bin Laden to visit Baghdad."

Funny, I don't think Marco agrees with you too much.
And who the hell is saying Clinton bombs good? No they
were no good either. It is always R and D with you,
isn't it? Again, the R's could run the devil and some
people would defend them. Incredible!

Staci,

As stated before I'm "Independent" a conservative first, Bush is hardly conservative in my book. Kerry is a radical liberal, so guess who I support. I believe in self reliance with little government interference. The Govs #1 job is to defend America everything else is second.

I haven't had the chance to vote for a conservative democrat for president because the democratic party has been hijacked by the far left.

JFK was far left? He was a hawk when it came to the Soviet Union
His speech asked "not what your country can do for you but what
you can do for your country" doesn't sound far left to me.

LBJ certainly had social programs but he was from Texas and
also a hawk.

Jimmy Carter was a born again Christian, far left and born again
Christian don't relate my friend.

And whether you believe it or not, and I know you will not
Clinton was not far left. If you remember he executed people
in Ark. Not the mark of a far left politician.

Come on game, you are caught.

Staci,

I'm a bit young to have had the chance to vote for the above, I'd say JFK would not understand how far left his party is now. Carter was a typical tax and spend liberal.

No I wasn't stuck at all. I voted for Green and White for 2 local elections. One has turned out to be a radical liberal and the other is fairly centered and has done a pretty good job.

Curious as to your take on my latest thread.
