I bought one new ( Motorola) from that E-bay guy over a year ago. It has instructions, but they don't tell you anything much about using the scores (ESPN) feature.

I pretty much let the thing sit for a year after playing with it when I first got it. I've started trying to figure it out again lately.

I get scores from weeks ago, after pressing buttons for 10 minutes, I sometimes manage to get a current day's score or two out of it, but it may not be up to the present time. I screwed around with it at the beach for a long time today.

Calling 1-800-555-tell is much easier. Anybody else have problems getting it to work easily and properly ?

Is the one CRIS offers any better ? Anybody have tips on how to use it ?

Doug,

I got one of those older Ebay sold pagers(Verizon model), I love mine, updates every minute or two. Sounds like you got one of the new ones, have you tried emailing the seller? I would think he would probably be your best bet to understanding the thing, if you dont still have the instructions. I think the seller was a Dr. Dent or something like that, know if thats who your seller was?

Mine's not shut-off, it will get scores but I basically don't know the right sequence of buttons to push. Sometimes it displays gibberish.

The gibberish thing that you are talking about must be normal with these things. I have two of them and on both of them every once awhile the scores and team names seem to be all funky looking. Other then that I love it. Was out to dinner on a date the other night and I was able to check the scores under the table!

I have the instruction booklet , but it tells you nothing. I may try to contact the seller, I'm sure I'd recognize his ad.

The one from CRIS is excellent. I've had mine for about two years now- no problems at all. Nice not shelling out the $40.00/month anymore for the Sports Pager.

CRIS gives the standard Motorola Advisor Elite from Sports Box (I think) out of New York. Scoring updates every 2 minutes and they are not too far behind- I've checked several times. Like any of the other services, sometimes their feeds are delayed but it doesn't happen that often.

why not just get a cell phone with a web browser. program the thing for epsn-mobile and you can check for scores when you want to?

I have a sidekickII (DO NOT GET A SIDEKICK THOUGH!!!!!) and i use it primarily to check scores, lines etc. Only costs me 29.00 a month and can use it for chat, email and as a cell phone too any where in the country...(Actually sidekick uses some kind of gps technology and can work almost anywhere in the world)

But i can not stress this enough. If you are getting a phone for web access, do not get the sidekickII...I blew my moola on one so that you dont have to:sad3:

Sports pagers are designed to be SPORTS pager. Not a cell phone, or a PDA.

There are three major sports paging services out there. Each has its advantages. All provide line updates at least 20 time a day, scoring updates every 2 - 5 minutes, plus many other essentials to make a living at sports wagering.

A phone or PDA will do the same, but you have to search for the information. My time is money and I don't want to search. Plus, the sports pagers are nationwide, which means they go where you go, all in the palm of your hand and can be easily fitted into your pant's pocket.

I have all three companies. I wouldn't go anywhere without them.

CHALK Agree completely. The sports pagers bring up the updates right now. cell phones are totally impractical for just the scores- too much searching as you correctly point out. I wouldn't part with my 20th century technology

Remember killing 2 birds with one stone. Going to the track and receiving game updates. That was nice.

Thanks.

Most cell phones now have ESPN bottomline which gives you all the scores quickly for like 4 bucks a month.

Do any of these services work internationally? Do they get their connections over cellular networks or similar?
