Forget drug addiction and take it a little broader

Do people think just addiction (be it in any form) is a disease?

Having an addictive personality. There are some people that are just addicted to that high, however they may get it.

I don't know the science behind it HC but I do know two brothers can come from the same parents and one can become addicted while the other doesn't. Both from the same genetic pre-disposition.
They are not of the same pre-disposition, because they have different genetic makeup. Understand? Good, because I tried again for you cuz you asked but won't try again.

Genetic pre-disposition (because that's what I said) and physical genetics (as you alleged what I said) are not the same thing.

Try again?

I guess my point is two kids can be raised in the exact same environment with the exact same parents and one can choose to cope with one life and the other can cope in a different manner. Initially, just a choice.

Now you're talking about nurture, I thought we were talking about nature (genetics). So now I'm really confused.

And let me debunk a little myth for you that has been brought up a few times in this thread. All alcoholics and addicts do not "turn to the bottle" because they don't know how to cope with life otherwise. A lot of us just liked to party and get fucked up and then all the sudden found out we physically had difficulty stopping.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

EnFuego just lost this one... so my dad is bald, and my mom has asthma... I had asthma as a teen, my brother never had it... we are yet to see if we become bald... if your mom has skin cancer, you have a genetic predisposition to it, doesn't mean that you have it, just means you should be really careful while sunbathing cause you could develope it easier.

Same goes for addiction, if your dad is alcoholic you should be careful with substances, cause you really could become addicted more easily than other people.

He doesn't get it, bro. But he really doesn't want to get it either. Everyone with the same parents get the same genetic predispositions, and the ones that fuck up are losers.

what part of the human body does over eating affect?

I would guess the brain, a mental illness like alcoholism.

I didn't say all alcoholics and addicts do this.

Who ever said guys that fuck up are losers? You sure are making a lot of shit up tonight instead of taking what is actually said and discussing.

You even said earlier, if we don't think this is a disease, we're basically just assholes. We don't agree with the great Ilini so we're just wrong.

Seriously, what the hell is the point of this thread? You obviously wanted to declare that Josh Hamilton doesn't have a disease. So what do you believe about him and other addicts? Essay style. Go.

Enfuego when you asked this question the first thing I did was look up the definition of disease. Based on my interpretation of the definition i came to the conclusion that it was.

When you read the definition of disease what specifically do you see that makes you believe drug addiction and alcoholism isn't a disease? I'm very curious to know specifically what that is. Am I missing something or reading the definition wrong?

I have no clue if he has a disease. Why I asked the question.

Why don't you just leave the thread if you can't post without being a fucking giant insult?
