A) Not what the thread is about at all. Sorry you see it that way.

B) Yes he did choose it IMO. That's just the way I see it.

I'm sorry to see when people disagree with you, you feel they're just ignorant assholes.
Just so you know, your A and B are contradictions. Saying it's not about placing blame, and then placing blame again.

I drink, smoke, do drugs, fuck, cuss, and gamble. If people don't like it then so what.

What about smoking ? The aftermath leads to many medical issues. But is smoking a disease or a chosen lifestyle?

Just so we're clear here.

The "it's a choice" crowd: you really feel that there is nothing more to addiction than "he chose to use an addictive substance until he became physically dependent on it"? That's it? There is no genetic pre-disposition, difference in brain chemistry, or anything? All that stuff is bullshit?

Claiming one has a disease though isn't an excuse and doesn't give one a pass for fucking over his friends and family, and or killing, or committing other crimes.

I don't know the science behind it HC but I do know two brothers can come from the same parents and one can become addicted while the other doesn't. Both from the same genetic pre-disposition.

Do you really believe that two brothers have the same genetics? Lol, what about a brother and sister, are they the same?

I don't know the science behind it either, but I do know that two brothers can have different color hair too. Or one can inherit any number of other genetic diseases/pre-dispositions while the other doesn't. So I'm not sure what your point is.

I've seen guys use the disease theory as a crutch, an excuse to do bad shit. Plus there's no evidence that treating addiction as a disease has any better out come than treating it as a vice. The success rates are identical.

I've seen that as well and think it's weak. Everyone is responsible for their actions. If you want to stop something bad enough you will stop.

I guess my point is two kids can be raised in the exact same environment with the exact same parents and one can choose to cope with one life and the other can cope in a different manner. Initially, just a choice.

Sure. And guys have used the "sex addiction" excuse after getting caught cheating on their wives. It's all bullshit, no one forces us to make the choices we make. No one ever forced me to drink, and if I ever drink again that will be my choice too.

But the FACT is that my body reacts to alcohol differently than a non-alcoholic. If my brother and I went out tonight and drank identical amounts of liquor, I would wake up in withdrawal and he wouldn't. I'm talking about medically measurable withdrawal.

So how is that? That might not be because I have a disease per se, but something is different between us, no?
