DO POSTERS HAVE A RIGHT TO BE HERE OR IS IT A PRIVILEDGE?

I think Raiders' post pretty much says it all. And TT also makes a good point in that your own personal stamp is going to be on it no matter what you do. After all, justice is a concept which was brought about by people for people taking into consideration the circumstances in which they interact. There is no absolute concept of justice. It is always relative to the people and circumstances involved.

My style in running this place would be very close to a laissez-faire anarchy with bannings in only the most severe cases. I think there are always other ways to shut an annoying brat up, the most common being to simply ignore him. They will go away on their own.

Amen

But the problem is that posters will not ignore. They feel the need to fight back in this anonymous forum like they prove something. When others respond, they only incite more trouble, but in reality that is what the many want. They want to press buttons and try to ruffle feathers.

Funny, I agree exactly with the analogy Jazz presented.

It's a privilege in the same manner as a driver's licence. It should be available to everyone who has the basic skills and should not be revoked except for cause.

If it is more restricted regarding entrance then it will tend toward a private club of syncophants.

Your business model (as I see it) depends on attracting as many posters as possible, so therefore it is a "right"

For my personal use, I like as much information as possible, and trust myself to sort the good from the bad, so also think it is a "right"

The nice thing is that posts that are important get responded to and bumped to the first page...those that suck are buried quickly.

The easy solution to someone who is making a mess in the forum is to IGNORE THEM. Their posts will die off and they will get tired of posting if no one responds.

As much as having obnoxious posters hurts the forum, so does banning people, probably more so. Let everyone speak their mind and let the "community" decide what is right.

just my 2 cents (just realized there is no "cents" key anymore on the keyboard...how long have I been out of it?
