Do poor pitch conditions equate to a low scoring match?

I don't think so............defense can slip and lack cut backs etc. and open up scoring chances & the offense can be slowed down also. I used to think it was like american football, where snowy day or rainy day could slow offenses down a bit, but it dosen't seem to be true, at least not to my estimation.

yeah, it really depends, the condition of the playing field and to what extent it's going to be affected by the weather is an issue too, it also depends on whether the players are accustomed to the weather conditions, for example an italian or a greek team will be much more influenced by a cold weather than say a norwegian team. It's rumored that it's a big leveler in terms of the underdog and the favourite, but that is open to question as well. Some people also claim that the more tecnical team is affected, and that is often true but open to questions, take for example the cl game with chelsea and barcelona where game 1 was played in a dump because besides the weather chelsea had been watering the field for the very reasons mentioned above, but what really happened was instead of barca having more problems because of the technical prowess, exactly because they are a technical team, they werer affected less. All that said I don't know how much weather affects american football that nylon mentioned in terms of slowing teams down, but it does affect soccer too this way, more towards the under than anything if one had to choose. Let's face it players are not machines and extreme weather conditions means their stamina and endurance isn't as effective. Dunno if I 've been of any help, this issue is kinda, well, murky.

i dont believe in it at all. football is a game of mistakes..goals happen most of the times after mistakes of defenders, which are at least the same number on bad as on good pitches.
what is a bigger factor imo is the side you play. there are highly skilled teams who need a good pitch to play their game, while bottom teams, which rely mostly on the fighting spirit anyway should have an advanatage.
Overall i dont think it s worth looking toomuch into pitch conditions unless its something really crazy. taking your time looking for local team news or injuries is much more important

yes it does matter for pitch conditions!!

especially when u have cup games!!

u have big, rich teams where they have awsome home football field

they go away and play vs shitty teams that are poor and does not have a lot of money

to be able to get a good pitch and they have mud, its dirty no grass

and good teams in that kind of situations they play really low scoring games!!

its like NBA detroit playing a high school team and they win by 2 3 pts!!

Good teams dont know how to play in bad pitch conditions but the weaker teams they are used to it and do much better on it!! but they cant score vs the better teams so it usually ends

0-0 1-0 2-0! many times i have seen that happen!!

Teams that are favored by 2 goals 1.5 2.5 they play 0-0 games 1-0 2-0 games!! rarely i see a big blow out! only when they play on good grass

remember that!

welcome to the rx moldoveanu, i presume you are romanian, or of romanian origin by your choice of nickname.

"its like NBA detroit playing a high school team and they win by 2 3 pts!! "

Ι thought basketball games were played indoors and not on grass and mud surfaces. Aren't they?

"Good teams dont know how to play in bad pitch conditions but the weaker teams they are used to it and do much better on it!! but they cant score vs the better teams so it usually ends"

As I said before, and chrsicol did too, in this thread pitch conditions can be a leveler between favourite and the underdog as the situation you are describing here. But that does not explain well other situations, take for example the one I gave on the chelsea barcelona game, which does not fit your description. So it's more that the underdog gaining an advantage over the favourite and thus favoring the under, than the under being favoured in any case.

stick around at our forum.
