I've had a full time job with the same company for 17 years. I bet sports for a living my first two years in Las Vegas and it's tougher than having a real job. I kept my head above water but the ups and downs were just too volatile for me.

Being a full time sports bettor and making a decent living at it can be done but it's tough. I've known a small handful of people that have done it and are doing it today. Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal once said you have a better chance of climbing Mt. Everest alone than you do of betting sports for a living.

Great thread...What kills me is how some people in this county do absolutely nothing of consequence and still can earn serious cash. I saw a special on MTV (hate to admit I flip to that channel these days) about guys who make a living at playing video games of all things!!! This one guy won 10 dimes!!! for winning a computer space shoot'em up game tourney and another guy said he has won over $150 grand as a Golden Tee (golf game) player!!! Just floors me. Of course other the other hand you have to say more power to them if they found a way to make $ at something as stupid as video games. I mean capitalism is great and this country and the freedom we enjoy is great, but when I look at

, pro stakeboarders or guys making $$$ on riding bmx bikes (the kind you pedal) I just think that maybe there is something wrong with our culture if we reward these people like we do instead of the blue collar guys who bust their ass for $30,000-$40,000 grand a year.

Having said that the older I get the more I realize money itself would not truly bring me happiness but the things I could do with it would bring me satisfaction by making life better for friends and family and myself of course

. Have you ever thought about this...if psychics really could see into the future how come they don't pick the right lottery numbers every week???

I haven't had a job-job in years, and retired in 2001 from a business in which I was a partner, then got bored and started up some new stuff -- I deal in gemstones, jewelery, bullion and numismatic coins, sort of taking a hobby and making it pay for itself. I also invest and own a surplus business, but the latter is very much hands-off stuff, just passive income.

Gambling is not really income for me. I enjoy it, but my picks are terrible. I do pretty well in casinos but the nearest ones are five hours away.

I am pleased to say that substantially all of the money I have ever made in sports gambling was made courtesy of some of the fine handicappers here at the Rx. Thanks homies!
