I'd have to think you have the optimal advanatge when you can watch the first half of a game and bet the 2H. Everyone is seeing the same thing, vegas doesnt know anything special.
In the NBA....you don't even need to watch. You can find a play most days simply by watching the box scores & using the above 'cookbook' as a guide.
If you've got team A shooting 50% and team B shooting 32%...but Team B looks scrappier (more steals, more offensive boards, getting to the FT line more, etc.) + team A has a starter or 2 in foul trouble + the 2H line seems a little out of whack due to the 'cookbook'.......You've got a play on team B. Yes, team A may continue to shoot lights out & team B may continue to stink it up FG% wise.....but more often than not, FG%'s will regress to the norm.
It should be noted that I'm probably only lifetime even using this angle simply b/c I'm an action junkie & usually try to force what I think is a correlated parlay & play side + total + parlay. Oftentimes getting the split but winning the 'cookbook' portion.
