For those of you have a the option of direct deposit from your employer how many of you use it and reasons why you wouldn't. I have been arguing with a fellow working over not having it.

So you like standing in the bank line?

This is a no brainer, direct deposit. You get the money at midnight on Thursday rather than having to go to the bank yourself on friday and wait for it to clear.

Did you create the choice " I do not work" specifically for Fishhead?

I can't imagine not having it. We get paid every other Friday and my money is always deposited Thursday morning.

Some ppl don't trust this stuff. I knew a dude who would walk to the bank every payday by himself cause he was the only one that didn't want it. I would tease him and say he has the hots for the teller....but i seriously think that he doesn't trust this kind of technological stuff. He pays cable/telephone bills in person as well....

That is exactly what I was teasing him about, that there must be some hot teller at the bank. He also uses the excuse that he has to go shopping right next door anyhow and that the atm takes just as long.
But you should have heard him panic when the checks where late on Friday due to the 4th of July holiday.

I have it, but turn in my timesheet on friday, then have to wait till 12:01 am tuesday to have the acct credited. THey state it takes 2 business to clear. I take it this is not most peoples experience.

I'm salary so no need for timesheet....it does take 2 business days to clear so they process ours 2 days before payday.

Incorrect. You will get your money as soon as your bank releases the funds.

Some banks hold the funds longer than others, to make interest on overnight banking.

It can depend on your payroll company, if you outsource, or your bank, if you do payroll in-house.

Payroll companies usually require 48 hour advance notice to move the funds into your account. Why? Payroll companies make money off the float as well.

The benefits far outweight the negatives.

For example, the one thing that NEVER stops is that a business has to pay its employees. Hurricane Katrina is a prime example. For those employees' that did NOT have direct deposit, they did not get paid on time. For those employees that did have direct deposit, their funds were in their bank, on time. All that is needed to access them is their debit card.

Also, if an employee is off on payday, by participating in direct deposit, there is no need for that employee to come into work on their day off.

Usually with payroll companies, you can deposit your funds into three different accounts, even at three different banking institutions. It's a great way to hide money!
