A baseball spectator was accused of screaming the n-word at a Miami Marlins player - but some viewers now think he may have just been calling out for a team mascot.
The slur appeared to ring out as Miami Marlins outfielder Lewis Brinson was at bat during the top of the ninth inning of their game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver on Sunday.
Brinson doesn’t appear to have heard the word, but it was clearly picked up by the microphones that were connected to the television broadcast of the game.

It went viral on social media, with multiple fans condemning it. But others have since come forward to say they believe the fan may actually have been screaming the name of the Rockies' mascot - a purple dinosaur called Dinger.
The Rockies said that the fan has not been identified, but an investigation is underway.

Agree they jumped way too quickly. It's so fucked up to see so many people on auto pilot all the time and not using their brain anymore. Just from the picture in your post I can tell that's what happened but I still watched the video to confirm my suspicions and then it was clear. The fan might end up suing for this! The Colorado Rockies say a fan did not yell racial slurs during Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins, and that the man instead was shouting at the team's mascot.

The Rockies said Sunday they were "disgusted" at what was widely believed to be a racial slur directed at Miami's Lewis Brinson, who is Black. But the organization told ESPN on Monday that the fan was shouting at "Dinger," the team's dinosaur-themed mascot.

A source confirmed to ESPN that the Rockies reached out and spoke to the fan as part of the team's investigation of the incident. The Rockies also contacted another fan sitting near the man, who also told the team that the man was shouting "Dinger," according to the source.

Denver-based television station 9News first reported Monday that the Rockies had concluded their investigation into Sunday's incident.

Microphones on the Bally Sports Florida telecast picked up the fan yelling during Brinson's at-bat in the ninth inning.

i was watching the mens beach volleyball final...#1 team from Norway vs the #2 Russians. and during the match the analyst was poking fun at the names of the two Norway guys and then joked about expecting them to come out in red shirts and big viking helmets with horns
