Is there an at home test or an easy way to determine if you are diabetic?

are u wondering for u? have u had blood drawn recently? they do have home glucose monitors that diabetics will use, altho can get pricey. but there is not one test that says "youre diabetic" like there is that says "pregnant" . if u did have a high glocose level when u had labs drawn your doc would go from there. there are some signs and symptoms for new diabetics im sure u could find if u gogled diabetes.

Yep it's for me. Doc takes blood once a year or more. Why he does this --I don't know. Asked him if I'm diabetic last year. He said no, so I'm wondering what is it exactly that he's testing FOR. The diet that he gave me says..."Take charge of your Diabetes".
He's taking blood in late June for the first time this yr.

now...just some guess work here as i am more surgically oriented as a nurse...but i think the yearly bloodwork he does would be a overview of health and whats a potential for something going on, sometimes the first indication that something is awry... general blood count, chemistries (like glucose, potassium and calcium levels...) maybe some liver function tests and cholesterol. bloods probably arent drawn more than once a yr unless warrented.

as for the ..."Take charge of your Diabetes" diet that he gave u...i would guess that since u had issue with blood pressure and he got you on a more strict diet...and as i can remember i think the 'diabetic diet' thing is really the way everyone who wants to be the basic level of healthy should be eating for a balanced healthy diet (not speaking of ppl who need special diets or are bulking on certain things for exercises)... i bet thats why he gave u that diet (diabetic diets are often refered to as the calories and ADA...like u were 1500 calorie i think.)

How did you manage to land at this website...guessing you were searching for medical info on prescriptions? (Rx)?

Anyway, diabetes understanding it is baffling to me. Took the test above and got a RED 10 for being at risk. Then did some reading and they have what they call pre-diabetic condition. To explain it--seems confusing. I guess it all comes down to one thing at my stage in life. Eat Well, excersise properly and DIE anyway! Anyway after doing the blood work in late June....I can now ask the doc , if I am "pre-diabetic"?
Kinda all reminds me of when President Clinton was being questioned about lying about Monica L and his response was...."it depends on what the meaning of IS, is". LOL

i landed here because #1 was on here (how he found it i dunno) and so i checked it out and i basically sign in to read to news...and play the contests (contest whore as #1 calls me) and i saw the health and fitness room....

as far as the pre-diabetes concern goes...i dont know the "requiremnts" off hand but im guessing most americans if they are not diabetic, are pre-diabetic. my sister is an insulin dependant diabetic since 6 mos old, but until i became a nurse did i really realize the dangers of diabetes. so....as u say..."Eat Well, excersise properly and DIE anyway!", dont look at it that way, cause the problems that arise due to diabetes is not how i would want to spend my last days/months. i have seems some rough ppl who didnt care for themselves and ugh, it gets very ugly. ignorance is not bliss so it does make me happy to see self aware ppl.
