I have been in this game long enough to know all the pit-falls and have at times posted on here about them. However, that doesn’t mean I still can’t become a victim every so often. No matter how shrewd I think I am or good my mindset, regular as clockwork, about once a year I go in self-destruct mode. I don’t know the psychology but maybe it’s a knee-jerk from trying to hard. I knew a guy who was supposedly one of the sharpest dealers on the London Stock Market but the way he gambled was almost suicidal. A few years later when I asked if there was an explanation, he simply said that after having to play smart all Week in his job, gambling without thinking provided a great release. Although over the recent past my losses haven’t been major, it seems I always lose. Another common denominator is it always happens after a good win. Of course the dreaded drink is nearly always involved.

After going 3-7 on posted plays, I lacked the enthusiasm to post in Week 5 but I had a stellar day, which actually put me ahead on the year. Struggling to find any bets for Week 6, I decided Sunday morning to have no bets and go to the local for a few jars. When I came home worse the wear I turned on TSN, where they were saying the under in the Cleveland game looked good as the wind had got up. After pouring myself a drink, I decided to have £50 as an interest. The chain of events, which followed, started when I realised after the game had begun that I had bet £200.
I played 4 more games in running and though unlucky ended up with £390 losses. By the time the late games came I was well gone and in chase mode. £200 on Oakland (I actually made a note of how bad they were the previous Week) was followed by £100 on Dallas.

So, I lost £690 on a Week I had no views. More annoying was I normally follow Hansens picks when I have no thoughts and even went against his Denver pick. Hopefully I have exorcised the demons for the year and go forward. I posted this as an alert and timely reminder; keep your guard up, especially after a good win. Keep the drinks for celebrating. :drink: :drink: :drink:
