Bramblett, 61, who was sentenced to death for killing a family of four in southern Virginia in 1994, maintained that he was innocent and said he chose electrocution as a form of protest.

Bramblett was pronounced dead at 9:09 p.m. at the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, the Associated Press reported. He was the first inmate to be executed this year.

Virginia Gov. Mark R. Warner(D) had denied Bramblett's request for clemency less than an hour before the execution.

Bramblett told the The Associated Press on Tuesday that he chose the electric chair over lethal injection to protest his wrongful conviction.

"I'm not going to lay down on a gurney and have them stick a needle in my arm and make it look like an antiseptic execution taking place as a result of a fair trial," Bramblett said in a telephone interview from the Greensville prison.

No, but I am disgusted, and it hurts more because I expect more out of a democrat (though lately I wonder why).

How many people does Virginia execute a year? That may be the answer why the Celebs aren't there.
