Sportscenter et al, please excuse my ignorance as to why the return of a murderer to the ice is cause for celebration

I'll save my celebration for when Dan Snyder suits up...but somehow that doesn't seem very likely

It was an accident. A murderer should be classified as one whos' intention was to kill. Do you really think he purposely tried to kill Dan?

OK, manslaughter then.

Don't drink and drive. It's really that simple.

There was a thread on this board last week showing no mercy on Jayson Williams. I see no difference between his case & Heatley's except that in one case the weapon was a gun, in the other it was a car. In both cases an "alcohol-related accident".

There is a difference between getting in a car drunk & pulling out a pistol drunk.

That difference is not much when you are talking about doing 80+ in a residential 35mph tops zone & killing someone vs. getting smoked & deciding that someone needs a bullet through their head.

Heatley wasn't drinking.

Heatley article

The compassion they have shown to him and their desire for the prosecution to drop charges could weigh heavily in Heatley's favor as the Fulton County District Attorney's office decides whether or not to continue with the vehicular homicide charges, which could carry a sentence of up to 15 years. The fact that Heatley wasn't drinking before the accident also will help his cause, and his attorney Ed Garland hinted at a positive outcome for Heatley by saying, "I am optimistic about the ultimate outcome."

The guy was a young foolish boy who got in a CAR WRECK in a REALLY FAST CAR.

I have a Dodge Viper and while i have never wrecked it my friends ALWAYS want me to go from like 65 to 145 on the freeway just for the rush. Sometimes i do it. Sometimes i don't.

We don't know if the guy wasn't saying "CMON DANY LETS ROCK THIS BABY" or not...

Lay off the guy he made a mistake... It happens.

If the parents of the victim can forgive I think we can too.

Holy crap. I was absolutely certain that it had been reported that he'd been drinking. Obviously, I take back all of my criticism. If a mod could delete this or move it to the RR I'd feel alot better. Sorry.

Not to mention even he had, everybody who hops in the car is just as liable as the person driving behind the wheel..

In general here in the good ole boy state of Georgia, athletes don't get locked up for long. Look at that murdering thug Ray Lewis, now the toast of the NFL. Heatly wasn't drinking however he was going over 100mph which is supposed to be mandatory jail.
