I'll tell you one thing, most Ticos don't seem to have any ambition. I know several of them who have been working for 6 years or more in the industry and are satisfied with a $1200-$1500 salary.

amen. Personally i can never "settle" for anything.. i always want more

This is a really well written article.. makes perfect sense.. i see how mom plays maid, janitor and cook till they are 27, move out for the first time when they get married and wifey takes over the mommy role and on goes the cycle..

except that women are not into that anymore.......little problem if you expect that

Maybe not in the central valley. But once you get outside of the city it's alot different.

Its so freaking frustating to read articles like this........most people I've known..are not like that.......

I guess I will have to keep putting up with these generalizations......since the % of Ticos that are not like that are a minority :>( arghhhhhhh

In my family education is very very much a good thing, the only thing that can't be taken away from you (my family lost it all in civil war of 48 and then AGAIN in Mexico when some sort of pig disease killed them all and left my Grandpa with absolutely nothing so thats probably where they got that view of things).

I am sure that there are many Ticos that are nothing like whats being described there (here and in general). But its ok.......we forgive you gringos (and gringos v2 aka Canucks) ......just remember why I charge the gringo price , its for putting up with your crap:smoker2:
You just confirmed every thing said in that article.

You are stating that your family lost every thing, twice. Didn't you get the point? You should earn for yourself. Not cry that your grandfather lost every thing.

Let me guess, you still live with your mom?

Idiot, that was not my point, my point was simply that education is a valuable asset that you can't lose and as an example, my grandpa's experience. It seems that the native speakers in here are losing their reading comprehension.

Point taken. But I'm still willing to bet you're over 20 years old and still live with your mom.

I doubt there is anyone in this forum that understands Costa Rica better than Garland Baker. he is not here to swing in a hammock or bang as many hotties as he can before his dick falls off. he is deeply entrenched in Costa Ricas legal system and culture. He knows what he is talking about, and he is correct. The same thing that we all love about this country is the same thing that holds it back from progressing. "Pura Vida Maje!" live in the moment, dont worry, thats what we love right? Thats also te attitude that stops people from planning for the future. Fuck it, what does san Jose need a sewer system for? fuck it, why not throw my trash out the window and shit on the beach during Semana Santa? Pura Vida maje! its all good!
If there is anyone that wants to tell me that if "I dont like it, leave" go fuck yourself! I am making this country a better place. come say it to my face, and I will show you how to make Costa Rica a better place. Friends back in the states ask me if I am worried about Nicaragua or Panama or Venezuela etc... invading. The people that are fucking this country up are TICOS. Take what you can get now, burn your bidges, shit in your rivers, throw your trash out the window, dont worry, pura Vida Maje! Fuck You! Manifest Destiny! since your lazy beaner asses aint gonna do anything to make this country better, sit back in your hammock while mommy packs your lunch box! If us gringoes where not here, you would all be living in tin shacks shiting where you sleep, oh wait, most of you still are!
Pura Vida Maje!
oh by the way, I just fucked your sister, she loves gringo cock!

to understand CR (or any country) you need to understand a great deal about its history

I have a very hard time believing that a foreigner can understand a country better than the best of the locals. (in any situation)

Regardless, I find it funny that he says "us Gringos" like he came here with suitcases full of money with the intention of helping people. The only people Brock Lee has kept out of tin shacks is the coke dealers and whores.

Wolfie like I said I've known the guy for years and he has helped me out tremendously. Living here for 30+ years and dealing in law definitely makes him more of an authority than alot of ticos...Read his articles on am costa rica they deal with immigration, taxes, offshore corporations he's written dozens of articles on his own time.

There are plenty of locals that understand the situation, such as Oscar Arias! Sometimes a third party perspective can bring something to the table, also since it is difficult for most ticos to get visas to travel, most have a limited world view. I don't want to disrespect Costa Rica, I love it, but it does have it's problems. Should we just ignore them? or try to do something about it?
