A police officers group blasted the district attorney prosecuting the former Atlanta cop charged in the shooting death of Rayshard Brooks, saying he is setting the city up for more rioting because the charges are based on “politics and flavor of the day.”

John Edwards, executive director of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia, is accusing Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard of rushing to judgment in charging Garrett Rolfe with 11 counts, including felony murder, in the June 12 death of Brooks, 27.

“No use of force is ever pretty, and the courts don’t judge use of force on whether it’s right or wrong,” Edwards told the Daily Mail. “They judge it on whether it’s reasonable. It’s complex, it’s contextual and it takes times for investigators to see through all the witnesses, all the evidence, all the totality of the facts and circumstances.”

Edwards continued: “And then they have to be objective — not feeling before thinking — when they are making a decision that affects so many people’s lives. That has to been based on evidence and not the politics or the flavor of the day.”

Edwards, a four-decade law enforcement official, accused Howard of “jumping ahead” of an ongoing Georgia Bureau of Investigation probe into the shooting that led protesters to set fire to a Wendy’s fast-food restaurant after Brooks died in the parking lot.

“Let’s say this case that Paul Howard has spun goes to trial,” Edwards continued. “Twelve good men and women now look at this and say, ‘There’s no way I’m convicting on that.’ Paul Howard has just successfully set up the city for another riot.”

GBI officials said in a statement Wednesday after Howard’s charging announcement that the agency was unaware of the district attorney’s press conference before it happened.

“We were not consulted on the charges filed by the district attorney,” the agency said. “Despite today’s occurrence, the GBI will complete its mission of completing an impartial and thorough incident and we will submit the file, once completed, to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.”

Rolfe, 27, surrendered to authorities Thursday and remains held without bond. A second officer involved in the incident, Devin Brosnan, 26, who was charged with aggravated assault, also surrendered Thursday and was later released on bond.

Rolfe, who could face the death penalty if convicted, was fired hours after the shooting, while Brosnan was put on administrative leave, police said.

Edwards, meanwhile, said he was stunned by how fast Howard — who is facing a primary runoff set for August — made the charging determination.

“In any use-of-force investigation, you gather facts, you look at video, you talk to the witnesses, you look at the autopsy evidence, you get the toxicology back, the psychology reports … you take time to get the totality of the facts and circumstances,” Edwards said. “Then you sit down and you don’t make rushes to judge. I have never seen a situation when a DA who’s running for election jumps ahead of the agency working a case.”

A message seeking comment from Howard’s office was not immediately returned.

Yup......if these charges aren't dropped, & they go to trial, these officers will be acquitted of all charges & another riot will break out. People in this political movement don't care about facts.......it's like the Salem witch trials, a very dangerous road we are going down here in America.

Oh there no doubt about it......the question is the timing, whether it's 6 months, a year, 5 years or within 10 years.

I was talking to a black federal agent last night about this case and he said this shooting was one hundred percent justified. He trains federal agents and they show videos to them of perpetrators who turn around and fire guns at police and you have to shoot back, even if the bullets land in the suspect's back. We had a case in South Florida a number of years ago where the perpetrator barely turned around and shot the BSO in the head. This cop in Atlanta will be totally acquitted. Fuck the mob.

The police and certain people in government are now arguing that the judicial branch should not be used to provide checks or balances against the executive branch. The police and their Liberal supporters are fighting against the constitution. These cops and Liberals need to listen to Trump when he says LAW & ORDER, because they are now fighting against the laws that built our country.

Woman suspected of burning Atlanta Wendy's may have been Rayshard Brooks' girlfriend

The woman sought in connection with an arson fire at the Wendy's in Atlanta where Rayshard Brooks was killed may have been his girlfriend, according to police bodycam footage.

Investigators on Saturday identified Natalie White, 29, as a suspect in connection to the fire. The Atlanta Fire Department has obtained an arrest warrant for White for first-degree arson, a felony in Georgia.

White’s face was captured on video surveillance and shared during a news conference on Tuesday. Bodycam footage released in the case indicates that Brooks identified White as his girlfriend.

During the incident, Brooks suggested to officers that he could go to his girlfriend’s house nearby. In the footage, Brooks names White.

“You know, Natalie White, she’s my girlfriend. She left. I said, 'Baby, I’ll get Wendy’s and then I’ll go back ...'" he can be heard saying.

The restaurant, in the southwest part of the city, was where Brooks was shot dead by police on June 19. Officers were responding to a call about a man asleep behind the wheel of his car in the drive-thru lane.

Body and dashboard camera video show Officers Garrett Rolfe and Devin Brosnan speaking to Brooks for nearly 30 minutes on suspicion of DUI. His blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.10 percent, above the legal limit to drive of 0.08, according to reports.

As officers attempted to make the arrest, Brooks broke free and struggled with the police. In the video, they could be heard warning Brooks that he was going to be tased.

Brooks got hold of Brosnan's Taser during the struggle, before a chase ensued. A few moments before the shots rang out, Brooks reportedly turned toward the officers with the Taser in his hand. He was shot twice in the back.

Rolfe, who was fired following the incident, was accused last week of 11 charges, including felony murder. The move followed the resignation of Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields.

Officials said White is suspected of helping set fire to the Wendy’s on June 13 and that additional arrests may be forthcoming.

The state arson control board has offered an additional $10,000 reward in the case after authorities previously announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information about White's location, or additional tips related to the fire, is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or the Arson Tip Line at 1-800-282-5804.

Another riot on the way.

That needs to be quelled

I agree. Maybe the authorities will have a better way of stopping unnecessary looting and damage this time if it happens.

this country needs.. another civil war

Dogs, live ammo, fire hoses and -- oh yeah -- about five or six Alabama State Troopers. <><>

(That last part was a standing-joke comment from a friend I had in the Army in the 1970s.
He was from 'Bama and was the biggest racist I ever met, but he was funny too)

It's crazy that people think the threat of violence is enough for some people to think we should not follow the constitution. If there is ever probable cause of a crime, that person should be arrested and the courts should decide if a law was broken or not. If we stop doing that because it might lead to another crime might be committed, it is effectively ends all LAW & ORDER in America.
