CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The city of Charlotte is abuzz as fans eagerly await Sunday's Super Bowl between the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots.
Police are going through pregame exercises this week, preparing for excited Carolina Panthers fans' reaction to Sunday's Super Bowl.
Thousands of people will be in restaurants, bars and private parties Sunday. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police will have additional officers working Sunday night and more are on call if crowds get out of hand.
After the Panthers won the NFC Championship, thousands of fans flooded downtown Charlotte, forcing police to close the area around Trade and Tryon streets.
The crowd later moved to the stadium, where hundreds of people waited in the cold for hours to greet players when they came home.
On Thursday, city officials canceled Monday's victory-only celebration. The proposed event will be moved to a weekend date to ensure the attendance of anyone interested in going.
